Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Tom falls hard for Zooey Deschanel’s Summer,
who does not return the sentiment, so naturally, the relationship
doesn’t work out. (500) Days, though it has its moments of
genuine insight, is more a story of heartbreak for heartbreak’s sake
and not a deep emotional journey. The supporting cast all speak the
same commiserative “Dude, no!” dialogue that portrays them as
inordinately interested in Tom’s love life. I regret to inform you that
Summer is not a character so much as a boogeyman for males with an
overdeveloped romantic bent: an oblivious cutie that will steal your
heart and then blithely take a shit in the hole she left in your soul.
(500) Days is a film that is missing a better half.

I wanted to see this based entirely on my liking of Zooey Deschanel and Matthew Gray Gubler, but was waiting, hoping it would come to Park Lane or at least the Oxford… sounds like it isn’t worth my $10 anyway. 🙁 I’ll wait for the rental.
