If you’re a sometime recluse like me, this summer’s jam-packed sched of various festivals, happenings and capital-e Events likely has you ready for a siesta. Resist the urge, sleepy-pants — it’s time for a fiesta, courtesy of lovely local theatre company 2b. The company were already planning to do a performance of Hannah Moscovitch’s one-act play Mexico City, so turning the evening’s festivities into a full-on Mexican-style par-tay–complete with Sipping Tequila, a piñata, and appetizers sure to please vegans, vegetarians and meat-fiends alike–seemed a logical next step.

In Mexico City, a couple share with the audience the story of their visit to the titular city in question (a trip aimed at spicing up their marriage) and end up fighting. Along the way, the play explores “the desire for an ‘authentic’ experience,” says Anthony Black, 2b’s artistic co-director.

Black’s less forthcoming about another important piece of info about the fiesta. Asked what’s in the piñata, he reasons: “If I told you that, there would be no surprise, would there?” But, he says, the bounty could include tickets to upcoming 2b shows, and “little bits of naughtiness.” (Grab *your* little bit of naughtiness this July 22 at the Bus Stop Theatre—tickets are $20.)
