Today I hate Halifax…
I am from here, I moved back three years ago from Vancouver, and initially was very happy to be back, and very happy to meet all the people from Ontario who have moved here and love it, but today I fucking hate it!!!
There is nobody here my age to date, because everyone seems to be a student, married, or perennially drunk.
Right Halifax do you hear me, I am tired of you reckless, stagnant, and stupid behavior, from your visionless, and cowardly politicians, to your greedy, destructive piss ant rednecks you say are friendly but are really just as judgmental and staid as every other neo-colonialist dickweed.
I have lost all hope in this fucking place, it is nothing more than a huge province sized gallery/gift shop for geriatrics and a beer trough for ridiculous students who will leave nothing here when they move away but the stains on the carpet. —HaliHater

God I hate snow days. The idiots just come out of the woodwork.
Well.. at least you have the satisfaction of knowing that an entire city is not good enough for you.
Sounds like the people you fancy ARE good enough for you think YOU aren’t good enough for THEM.
Just a hunch.
Are you talking about Halifax or the whole province? Obviously you haven’t visited the Annapolis Valley or your opinion would be far less hostile.
You actually used “neo-colonialist”?
Oh, you better believe that’s a cockpunchin’
Why don’t you go “colonize” some heretofore unexploited ass-to-mouth opportunities.
*Sorry for stealing your bit SOHI, but the situation seemed to call for it.*
You also forgot to say about the foreign boys leaving behind their seeds for some poor girls to be on welfare and to raise the kids themselves without knowing who their daddies are. Man, that’s life altering.
All I can say is, Welcome Home, Cunt.
please don’t say c—! I hate that word with a passion. so demeaning! knuckle dragging Neanderthals use that word.
Oh my Heavens, what do we have here, a delicate soul who isn’t fond of the nasty, naughty, oft used, but oh so crude, C word?
And you’re from the Myra?
Get used to the C word, it’s tossed around more than midgets at a dart board.
CUNT, CUNT, CUNT, CUNTITTY CUNT, nothing could be finer than to slip into your vagina in the morning, nothing could be sweeter than to be a pussy eater……etc.
Perhaps try being open to some ass to mouth action.
“please don’t say c—! I hate that word with a passion.”
Yeah, change your vocabulary on this board because some fly-by-night n00b doesn’t like what you say! wahwah

Myra, I’d call you a cunt but from reading your posts I find you possess neither depth, nor warmth, so it wouldn’t be quite accurate, now would it.
My question, and it’s purely a rhetorical one is:
Are you one of those dusty old Downton Abbey type dowagers who get the vapours at anything “unpleasant”
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4149/506604…
Or, are you a buttplugugly feminazi who thinks using the word “cunt” is an act of verbal rape and should be prosecuted as a hate crime.
Or, are you just avin’ a laff?
Ivan, I wonder what Hilary would be like between the sheets? I’m sure we’ll find out if she does go for the big job south of the border.
I admire her, and even Peter Kelly could get elected after Obama, the social experiment that went wrong.
Yes bye, we wouldn’t want to offend your virgin ears, ya coont!!! Don’t you ‘ave some more wee ones to make for a better welfare cheque?
MyraGirl: cunt cunt cunt
OB: Bye!
The dating scene is pretty bad if you’re looking for people around the age of 30. You have 3 categories of people in Halifax (maybe more, but for the sake of argument)
1. Young students. They are lovely, and plenty, but of course, young.
2. Couples – it’s a financial must for life in Halifax if you want to “keep up with the Jones'”. By the age of 30, many single people get up and leave for a better life ($$$)
3. Drunk and depressed 30 year olds holding on to the “scene” complaining they can’t meet good people. NO SHIT. Date assholes = treated like shit. So many in their 30s living in complete denial.
So you’re either dating students or immature 30+ year old drunks pretending to be hip shit.
Yeah, it blows.
Makes one wonder why you left beautiful lotus land and the wonderland of Vancouver to return here. Did it also ‘turn on you’? Also, you seemed to like it here 3 years ago, so did all the people you dated then just go ‘poof’, or did they escape from you? And you were happy to meet folks from Ontario, did they also all vanish from here and your life? Perhaps that is your answer, just get into a car, bus, train or plane and maybe you too can find peace and contentment somewhere else. If not – look in the mirror and consider – ‘maybe it is not the place that is not right’.
This time do not return here, as you seem to have run out of options here and burnt your bridges. Meanwhile those of us who have a life, many having a good one, in this town can get on just as well without you. After all you can change your location, and your destiny, but Halifax has been here for a while and it ‘ain’t goin’ anywhere. soon’, nor is it going to change just to suit you or your needs/desires du jour.
dartguy,
You seem to be making some pretty big assumptions?
I love Halifax, been here forever. But it has turned into a bit of a cliche don’t you think? The drunk scenesters, the high cost of life, etc. Not saying this doesn’t happen everywhere, just my perspective from living here 12 years in my 20s and now 30s – it’s a tough town for single people, both financially and romantically. As a poster above mentioned, there are a lot of drunk 30+ here, and they suck.
But of course, not all of them suck.
Cliche indeed – how many plaid wearing bearded drunks playing in 5 shitty bands (love the good ones though!) do we need in one city? Oh, and the absurd amount of drunk waitresses…WTF.
Its been my experience that most of the men my age 25-35 are broke-asses, either living with their parents or being supported on a regular basis by their parents. Also, skinny jeans make you look like idiots!
The Taint,
Precisely my point, and it seems to go both ways – single people in Halifax between the ages of 25 and 35 have fallen into the booze fueled deadbeat trap of denial.
Of course, being “broke” is no indication of a deadbeat these days with the high cost of education and low wages, but chances are that the majority of them just drink it away wearing their dumb ass jeans and beards. But the drunk women seem to fall for it so it’s hard to blame them…if they just spent less time in bars, they’d realize their folly. Maybe not.
Is 2014 the year Halifax breaks out of its sad scenester cliche? The colored jeans are my biggest concern these days…red, green, or purple jeans don’t look good on ANYONE. But I’m not much of a fashion critic so what do I know.
Do people wear red jeans in other cities too? It is concerning…
Why all the booze hate???
It’s the only thing that can ultra-consistently make you feel happy whilst living here.
That’s why it flows so abundantly…
And why people are so poor.
Shouldn’t have moved back… now you gotta live with the horrible consequences.
(Not to mention twice the people in Vancouver == twice the potential prospects)
Zzedward Hyde,
Well…for one, I use to think that was the case. But the truth is that Halifax has lots to offer.
Unfortunately, the zeitgeist seems to be to celebrate drunken debauchery and all its glory as part of “living in Halifax”. The momentum becomes too strong for some, and they just convince themselves that it’s the way of life here – we’re more “laid back” and “fun”. Sure.
The reality is that most of that crowd is severely depressed and boozing is just a temporary fix. There’s a difference between enjoying some drinks, and drinking as a lifestyle. For way too many in Halifax, it’s a lifestyle (the whole bar scene here is very “lifestyle” heavy).
We tend to forget that it doesn’t have to be that way, but the pull is very strong. Add to that the amount of nearby 30 year-olds working in the bar scene because they can’t find work in their fields, and you have this situation; Lonely, depressed, broke-ass drunks pretending to be happy by surrounding themselves with more drunks and scenesters having such a great time.
But who’s buying that anyways? Anyone with half a brain sees through the veneer – and thin it is! And herein lies the problem with the dating scene for grown ass adults. As a man, constantly drunk 30 year old women are a big turn off. Just saying…
If drinking is the only thing going in your life, you lack to imagination to lead a better life. And you are BORING.
J
Jhey — no offense, but you sound like you got burned by one of these ‘drunks’ and are now painting everyone over 30 who’s single with the same brush (and flogging deceased horses while you’re at it).
The dating pool might be smaller in the 30+ crowd, but not all of us are drunks working in a bar.
And besides, just wait a year or two and most of the married sect’ll start getting divorced and you can have at’er.
Pretty Kitty,
Don’t know if you read…but I mentioned that not ALL are like that.
I got burned too many times in the past, and then I learned my lesson(s). Just realistic now. Don’t date drunks that hang out in bars 5 nights a week – they’re so numerous! – it’s pretty simple. And makes me much happier.
But I see my friends going through the same thing – both men and women. So it sucks on both sides for anyone looking for interesting non-alcoholics in around 30 years of age and up.
Fact remains – lots of 30 something depressed drunks in Halifax, regardless of what anyone says. It’s the “way of life” around here. So I’m not painting anyone with a brush just stating the obvious. Unless I am completely clueless, which could be the case.
And I’ll say it again; there are some good ones too! You just have to have the right goggles.
J
Hi Jhey I was not so much making assumptions as wondering in print as to why the OP moved back here and seemed to like things and people here 3 years ago, but now the whole city has gone to crap for them. Seems that Vancouver was not the place for them either, but no reason as to what caused their leaving there, to compare the situation with here. The main point that I was making is that the person should not waste their time, energy and life in hating the city itself, just because the bar and dating scene has gone to seed. It is a shame if the scene here has really become that depressing for those in their 20s/30s. However, most folks I knew years back, including me took off for ‘greener pastures’ in other cities and spent time living and working there until our outlooks / lifestyles changed. Halifax had a fairly good social scene then, but the money was not great so that was the main reason most of us headed elsewhere. Granted I do not need the bar /dating scene anymore so just do not see that part of life here these days, so this town is fine for me. But I hate to see someone waste time and effort, when they could be enjoying life, and for now for the OP is seems that another place may help. However, it may be the same situation for them there too, but one has to take a chance. Hopefully they know someone elsewhere they can stay with until they get established, or at least see if that place is really any better, or perhaps even worse, than Hali. Good luck to them.
dartguy,
Ok, makes sense. I agree.
Most cities have lots to offer if you go out and find it.
let’s hang out
Basil, she can’t be too good since Bill keeps escaping and not having sex with that woman.
This could’ve been me at school.

I hear Bill has put in for a dozen, XXL
hey Dartguy, go read it again I moved back three years ago. I was gone for four. So seven years ago Halifax was just the same, that is at least part of my point, this city is unwillingly or unable to grow up.
I only came back is because I thought I might be able to afford a mortgage here. That is a maybe, but then I have to ask myself, there is only one real city, and it is dominated by scenesters and students, is it worth it?
And I have no inclination to live out in a small town full of oldies and teenagers on 4 wheelers.
A view doesn’t make a home.
RunsWithScissors maybe you’re right, maybe I don’t belong here, maybe I should find a place where good ideas become good things., and doesn’t remain financially dependent on students and tourists, and where good public policy actually gets us something good for all the taxes we pay.
Oh and your transit system… well.
“The reality is that most of that crowd is severely depressed and boozing is just a temporary fix.”
EVERYTHING is only a temporary fix… so why not?
Gonna die some time and, let’s face it, nothing you do/say/invent will ever even matter anyways.
See I’m not a monster… I’m just ahead of the curve.
Right.
Hey Bro Tim, why don’t you fuck off and go give yourself another Rusty Venture no. 6.
actually yes, fuck your Neo-Colonist BS. Half my family (those that were still alive) fled to North America in the 50s after being violently and famously segregated. The other half (those that were still alive) were segregated from the day europeans landed here.
And i still probably wouldn’t date you.
The truth about you is that you paint all people who look a certain way with the same brush. Which is exactly what your so-called “neo colonists” do.
You just don’t want to admit you’re one of them, only just you’re very pretentious about hiding it.
Now, if you’ve read this far, my recommendation for you is internet dating. Because on the internet, dating is basically like buying a car. You can find out the exact make, model and year of the goods before you give said goods the time of day. And don’t limit yourself to Halifax either since you’ve type-cast all of us anyway.
talking to me? You’re way off the mark. Besides, I’m happy.
Online dating was fun for a while…
