  1. I’ll assume this is sarcasm, but if its not:

Do what the rest of us do every two weeks except you can do it every Tuesday, get paid and spend it. Simple.

I always assume cabbies hate debit because they can’t cheat it / defraud the tax system on it…

  2. Oh no, they can still cheat it.

“Oh, well this is a van, not a car. That’s why there’s $9.00 on the box right from the get-go.”

  3. Oh no, you have to wait until the following tuesday!? Shit, I wish I got paid every week, but unlike you OP, we get paid twice a month.

  4. Cabs are not cash-n-carry jobs of yesteryear …. who has bills EVERY day? Huh, huh, really? Money management is key regardless of how often or how few times one gets paid per month. BUDGET.

Gas, and shit can be paid on credit card and WAIT FOR IT …. HERE IT COMES ….. pay it on TUESDAY! Simple.

I often take cabs and pay cash so as not to inconvenience the driver …. new change in plan and will debit the fuck out of y’all from here on in.

  5. Vans at one time when you call a company to request one charged 7 dollars extra to get that service…to walk up to one sitting at Park Lane they are not allowed to charge the extra cost…OP, if you’re having problems waiting for Tuesday’s to get paid from debits….you have a serious cash flow problem.

  6. Um, the majority of us either get paid every two weeks or twice a month. Here’s a word you might need. You can look the meaning up in a dictionary. The word is “budget”.

  7. I’m tired of living in the year 2013 and having loser cab drivers not accept debit and credit. Who carries cash anymore? Just one more area Halifax is 30 years behind the time in.

  8. Hey, each night they have to clean the come off the backseat. Some nights they clean off the blood.

    Cleaning supplies cost money.

  9. Ob’s probably talking about gas. They gotta buy gas every day.

I had to sit through a diatribe this one cabbie went on about because he ‘can’t buy gas when ppl use debit.’ Then his debit wouldn’t work and he DEMANDED he take me to a bank machine to get cash. I was already late for my appointment because he wad ranting about me wanting to use debit.

I told him his debit being fucked wasn’t my problem.

  10. What the hell op?

    Starving?

MOST people get paid every two weeks. If you’re that poor at managing your money it’s not because you have a wait a few days for your pay to come in, you know, like the rest of us have to do ALL THE TIME.

    Fuck…

  11. I’m sure a cab driver can calculate the amount of gas he uses during the week on average and bank that amount plus on Tuesday for the following week’s gas usage.
    Really much abitch about nothing.

  12. Customers get paid weekly or biweekly and don’t give a flying fuck. If you’ve been doing this for two goddamn decades you should know how to budget by now.

  13. To add to all bitcher’s comments here, many taxi drivers, even though they have debit/credit machines in their cars, on any day other than Monday or Tuesday, want cash instead. They will say anything…machine not working, out of paper, no signal, etc. To take a person to an ATM means cash and added revenue from driving out of way for the customer plus time waiting, an inconvenience for the customer, to say the least. They could open a Merchant account like I did, useful for more than just taxi, like selling on Kijiji for example, but short of it is they still get charged from company for debit/credit machine even if they don’t use it.

What drivers don’t understand is they have to budget for expenses during week until they get paid from debits, I understand gas, insurance and repairs cost money. I have an account for that purpose, safety net in a way.

Also being paid by that way means .. It’s guaranteed money, like getting a cheque once a week.

PK, I believe OP was bitching about insurance and maintenance work was due today, not next Tuesday, that’s my take on this.

Your’re asking yourself, how do I know all this?….. because I am one.

  14. Calling Bullshit on this one fella. WHY? because for two years i was told by the cab drivers that it takes 2 weeks for the bosses to pay out any debit card transactions…to which i felt bad for and then because of that was typically giving 50% extra on tip for the whole process. LO AND BEHOLD…i appologized to a gentleman about 3 weeks ago for not having cash and using the debit as i knew the trouble they caused and he was shocked and asked me what i meant. when i told him what i had been told by the other cabbies, he was furious…told me it was an outright lie and anyone who says that should be reported. I gave him an even BIGGER tip and anytime i hear that excuse i take down the sign number and report them for lying to their customers. As a side note…the guy who told me the truth, was a white, local man driving taxi for 20+ years….all the liars, were of another ethnic variety….go figure.

  15. what klyde said. I did a stint as a taxi dispatcher up north in the days of cash only (not even credit cards altho we did get a lot of barter stuff)

cash-only just adds to the danger that cab drivers already face. debit removes cash in the car and should help reduce holdups.

you have to have a ‘float’ for expenses. it’s foolish to spend all your money as it comes in.
