Walking along Canal Street in Dartmouth, I come across a little park with a walking trail…only right in the middle of the trail is some stupid looking wooden erection.  Not even sure what it is… something to do with boats, some old historic boat launch or something.  How much did the city pay to put that there, right in the middle of the walking trail? Nobody wants to see that garbage?  Why is the city so obsessed with history.  MOVE ON! Why are you wasting tax payers money on this bullshit, that’s nothing more than an eyesore and an obstruction.  Meanwhile, Nova Scotians can barely afford the shirts on their backs, they’re taxed so hard. These lame ass politicians need to find a better way to waste our money.  Nobody is standing around looking at your stupid whatever-the-fuck. It sucks and so do you. —Politicians are crooks

  1. I’d like to see the head of the Edward Cornwallis statue sawed off and replaced with a bird bath but that ain’t gonna happen either.

  2. Sigh….What you are referring to is the flume house of a still operating system that was installed about 160 years ago. Considering this is from Pre-Confederation and not alot of the things built back then still operate to this day, it’s actually a engineering marvel. This project helped build this province as it was its first major conduit for trade goods. So before you go on a uneducated rant about something you have no idea about, why not do the 2 seconds of research and google “The Shubinacadie Canal”.
It was at one point the largest construction project in the British Empire. So what you’re talking about is the beginning of a canal system that cuts directly across the province and feeds out into the Minas Basin and determined the way people populated the province as towns popped up all along the canal. Many Scottish and Irish families all over the province can trace their lineage to the original settlers that came to work on this massive project.
Secondly this was paid for by the city which is separate from the province who sets the income tax levels so the two aren’t the same. So it’s kind of like calling Halifax Water with your issues with NSP.
In regards to your diatribe against historical sensitivity in this city. We are actually seen as lax considering the amount of registered heritage properties that get demolished every year for redevelopment. Many North American cities would love to have half of the character buildings we have here not that we appreciate the notion.
Do us all a favor and think next time you don’t understand something instead of relishing in your ignorance.
