I cannot believe this. I am more than a little offended by The New Mayor’s recent behavior. I personally take offense when people dress up as women, not only is he putting women down, but he is also making a mockery of real transgendered people. All he is doing is sending a message that women are a joke and transgendered people are a joke. Now he can laugh with his buddies and make fun of people in front of the entire city. Is this just his way of securing the gay/lesbian/transgendered vote? To me that’s a bit disrespectful and way too politically conniving and vulture like. I would have loved to see Fred from Fred’s Salon as new Mayor. He has class, he loves this city and he is an example of a successful gay man who is not only a thriving entrepreneur who has great ideas and would actually bring about change for this city. He would show this city that Gay men are not a joke.

Another reason I take issue is the Mayor’s belittling the Chris Brown situation. Clearly this is a very complicated issue. We don’t care if this makes you sick. You make us more than a little sick because you sit on your little red high chair at City Hall waiting for someone to invite you out to cut a ribbon. What have you done for the Black Youth of Dartmouth or Halifax youth in general? Have you done anything to condemn the rampant violence in Halifax at all????? What about the continuous murders of Youth, (young men and women in HRM that go unsolved. Have you set up a task force? Are you doing anything to console their families? I know the answer is NO. Why because you are too busy making appearances on Breakfast Television, asking the world how much they missed you or pretending to be Brad Pitt on You Tube.

Guess what? Halifax does not need a clown, we need actual government to help and empower our Youth. I am a person who has worked directly with youth of all races and I feel that with a lot of care and concern and guidance they have a lot to offer this city. With a joke like you running this City we are turning into another Detroit!!!! Do Something Mr. Mayor. Or else get off your high horse. —4REALCHANGE

  1. The joke is that everyone feels the need to be classified in some way, either as a guy, girl, tran, alien, muppet, etc… The punchline is that it really doesn’t matter.

    jokes on you, ya fool

  2. Is it? Or is the Joke on Halifax? Are any of us smiling?Or is what you are really saying is that we don’t really matter and we are all just fools to be messed with?

  3. So do you mind when i wear pants and a ballcap? Because i don’t plan to stop. It’s comfortable. Fuck you.

Also, Detroit is my second home. And trust me, lil fella, Halifax has a FUCK of a long way to go to become anything like Detroit. Does halifax have one of the highest per capita murder rates in the country? Is halifax abandoned and falling down? Hardly. It becomes more populated and pleasant every year.

But thanks for the slam. I guess it’s ok to offend some. Just not others, huh? Any dick who pours salt in the wounds of an entire group of people doesn’t care as much about who gets offended as he pretends he does.

  4. Last time I checked we had the second highest per capita murder rate in the country behind Winnipeg . That was in 2012!!!! You are so delusional. So I’m A dick now cause I have an opinion that’s different then yours. Wow!!!

  5. I could tell you how difficult it is to actually run a city. Because people like you piss me off. You look to leaders and thinkers and assume that within their minds and hands lie all the solutions between today and a gleaming utopia. Sounds like YOU were the one lead down the garden path if you expect ANY elected official to fashion YOUR PERFECT WORLD.

Elected leaders have a lot to answer for. But so do you. When was the last time YOU DID SOMETHING?

And btw, don’t speak for my gender again. My gender can take care of ourselves, thanks.

  6. You assume to know my gender? Geuss you guessed wrong didn’t you. I will gladly leave you out of it. You are the one who is not addressing the real issues. Why are you commenting if you want to be left out of the conversation.

  7. For your information. I love Halifax. I was born here. I help out as much as I can. How dare you accuse me of slamming this city. I am the one that wants the best for this city. Or is it only OK to help some people and not others?????

  8. Shut the fuck up, 4REALCHANGE, you are about a decade too late. Nobody cares if you are gay/bi/lesbian/trans-gender, it’s mainstream now. So mainstream, in fact, that Nova Scotia recognizes trans-gender issues to the tune of paying for gender re-assignment surgery.

Any mayor, not just Savage, doesn’t have the ability to stop murders or any other crime, that’s a police issue not a city hall issue. I think the task force for that is called “homicide”. How do you console a grieving family from city hall, smart guy? Should he bake them a casserole? Maybe he could sing “Auld Angsigne” for them on BT.

You’re nothing but a flake!!!! If you want to make a difference so badly, get a nomination, do some fundraising, and run for mayor!!!! Yup, didn’t think so.

  9. There is soooo much anger here. I am but one opinion. Too bad all this anger couldn’t be re-directed towards something useful. That’s the thing. If I’m Wrong then you shouldn’t be so offended. Nah, Just defend the guy , he’s just the privileged son of a politician, he’s just what we needed , Right??? go ahead. If it’s not broke don’t fix it right???small minds . ENJOY!!!!!!

  10. Who’s offended? You don’t have the ability to offend me, Sport. You’re just another jilted voter that didn’t get Fred for mayor, that’s all. You are childish, and bring nothing in the form of solutions to the table. What’s your big plan for crime prevention? A “task force”? LOL!!!! That’s a new idea, bet nobody else ever thought of that one. Maybe you could order a report, and a commission to implement their findings. Assclown!!!!

As for the Chris Brown thing, get over yourself. The free market will decide whether or not people feel the same as you do. The mayor has no business deciding who private promoters are and aren’t allowed to hire. That’s part of living in a “free” country. Personally I think he’s a disgusting human being and he won’t be getting my money but, I’m not arrogant enough to think my opinion trumps letting people make a choice. The public is now well educated on the facts, lets be mature and let them decide who they support. He’s not here to promote wife beating, he’s here to play his shitty music.

  11. Detroit’s your second home Crayons? I’m sorry to hear that. Maybe you could lend them a couple of bucks. Hard times there.

  12. trolling, trolling, trolling. is there more than one troll whose English is a little ‘off’?

  13. This post is insane, the mayor was clearly trying to show compassion to the LGBT community. He was showing solidarity. He was showing it’s okay to be whoever you want to be.

  14. The mayor did what he had to do, whether he wanted to or not. Yeah, I actually said something in support of “Poor” Mike but then again he didn’t have much of a choice.

  15. oh get over it, you would have given the mayor shit if he decided not to go.

get off your high horse OB

  16. 4REALCHANGE is a fool

    can’t read
    can’t debate
    can’t think

“I love Halifax. I was born here. I help out as much as I can. How dare you accuse me of slamming this city. I am the one that wants the best for this city.”

No you don’t. Anyone who actually believed that and worked towards that ideal wouldn’t spew such hate. You’re trollish ways are boringly transparent

    Ya fool!

  17. 4real child. Show me the statistics.

Also learn what per capita means.

Nobody said things aren’t “broke” – this isn’t what we’re trying to say. Are you obtuse on purpose or are you just dumb?

If people don’t think exactly like you do and behave exactly like you do, you call them small minded. Que Ironico.

  18. I’m just happy I havn’t been accused of being the trouble maker (troll)………… yet.

  19. the mayor: i’ve hung out with drag queens lots. they’re fun to be around and funny as hell. i’ve no idea how a straight mayor should handle being involved in gay pride week, but being a part of the dykes vs. drag queens softball game (basically a 2 hour comedy show on a diamond and a cast of dozens, if you haven’t been before) seems like a decent idea, and doing it in drag himself, well that just ups the silly factor (and maybe even a little solidarity). if you got offended by it, then, as my drag queen friends might say, you need to rotate the stick in your butt. everyone was laughing and having a good time until capt buzzkill got here (that’s you, 4realchange). that ball game isn’t a serious event. he shouldn’t be expected to treat it like a visit to auschwitz ffs. let him be the awkward straight guy at a big gay party for the entertainment of the citizens. i thought it was big of him myself. just be glad you don’t have rob ford for a mayor.
chris brown: i thought this issue was about the elevation of abusers to pop star celebrity, and how as a city we might choose to do something about it. you’ve made it all about black youth of the city and what they have the potential to contribute. huh? you lost me. please explain the connection. i’m puzzled because chris brown is not the only celebrity/athlete to play big shows/games on city property who has been accused of heinous crimes like physical assault, and without this level of controversy (axl rose anyone?). what does it say about us as a city when we only seem concerned when the victim was also famous? does a woman have to sell as many records as rihanna before anyone cares if her abuser gets to keep working? i’m not a chris brown fan, and i think the free market is speaking here with rogers pulling it sponsorship, but i do wonder about the selective outrage machine and its clever ability to ignore anything outside of its own focus.
and since i’m a student of political science, i’ll let you in on a little secret about how politics works: there is a campaign for the mayor’s office. voters support candidates, and somebody wins. that person now has the power do all kinds of things, to go in many directions. most voters are happy to observe and register their feelings at their next opportunity to vote (this makes your job harder). others who might be passionate about a cause that requires attention between campaigns have to keep their advocacy going in the absence of the threat of losing an election. the work doesn’t stop when someone is elected. you have to sustain the pressure, to MAKE them do what you want, to give them enough public support that they can withstand the political landmines supporting your cause might bring forth from their adversaries. you can call the mayor out for his lack of attention to your cause, or you can suggest to him that you will bring in many youth votes and more next election if he helps your cause – and then you have make good on your word. guess which one a real booster of halifax would likely try and also would have a better chance at success?

  20. I’m so sick of hearing that drag demines women. No, it does not. If it does, you:
    a) are too stupid to talk about the topic
    b) are un-informed
    c) are terribly homophobic (internal homophobia included)
    d) have no sense of humour

    Fuck Off!

  21. Mikey was just stickin’ it to Robbie, that’s all.

Seriously though, I think a lot of voters of all orientations got a kick out of seeing the mayor in a frock and coif. He is, if nothing else, a good sport. Time will tell the rest.

  22. Push come to shove ‘Drag’ does not really have a lot to do with being gay, transgendered etc. It just tends to often get associated with the gay community. No big deal really. Certainly many great Drag Queens are not gay men, and many, maybe most (who really knows?), gay men would probably never want to be dressed up in dresses, wigs, heels etc. So the Mayor does not seem to be out to offend any group, sub group etc. He is just mixing with some citizens who are having a blast in celebrating diversity, and showing that he can let his hair down (or perhaps put it up) with the best of them. My God we should be thankful that government people like him are open to ‘letting go a bit’ and celebrating with a group that in many places is facing persecution, imprisonment and even death.
