Haven’t travelled much, have you?!
That is a crazy amount of money, definitely taking advantage of the market. I would still rather take a cab over the bus, though. Especially if you had a lot of crap to carry.
I’d be using my thumb, thanks.
Eh, taxis in Toronto charge $50 from Pearson to downtown. Halifax airport is pretty far from metro, so….
@Hoist: why rather take a cab than the bus? Either way you’re sitting in a seat for half an hour. And it’s no big deal to get your bags on the bus. Once in town you can grab other buses from Sportsplex or Scotia Square, or use the taxicab from either of those 2 spots…depending on how much stuff you’ve got and exactly where you’re going.
I could definitely see taking a cab once in the city, if lots of bags and no bus route near the final destination. But if you take the 320 into town the final price will be anywhere from 3.25 to maybe 20 bucks, depending on what you do then, a lot less than paying for a cab for the whole distance.
Op, it’s 60 bucks from the airport to dartmouth. And that route is about half as long.
You want to make a change? Start your own company and charge a lower rate. You won’t have enough cars to keep up with the demand. Not sure about your profit margins though. You’d have to look into that.
No, what’s bullshit is that the bus stops running at midnight. During the day there are ways to get to and fro without spending a fortune. Shuttle, bus, bumming a ride off of a friend.
Take a cab from Pearson to Downtown in Toronto and see how much it costs…fewer KM’s more expensive. Stop bitching that you have to spend money. Its 2013. Nothing is free anymore and people need to pay their bills.
If you’re taking a cab, you’re a sucker.
The limo service will drive you there in a decked out, air conditioned, leather seated lincoln town car for the same price…
and because you’re traveling, you’ve planned your transportation ahead of time, right?
I’d still take the bus. Good n cheap.
I’m pretty sure if you call ahead and say that you want a cab to the airport at x time on y day, they’ll charge you a flat rate instead of using the meter. I could be wrong about that, though.
Folks, the flat rate is $63 regardless of what cab company you use and not one of them will violate that if they ever want to work at the airport. It is that regulated and it is that strictly enforced, so starting your own cab company will do nothing to change it.
And quite frankly it costs on the average of $20 to go from Halifax to Dartmouth or vice versa, so $63 to the airport isn’t that bad
Here are the rates for a cab in this burg. It doesn’t include baggage, tolls, etc.

ND TWENTY CENTS
