Without assholes like you trying to bully and yell your way to free shit. I don’t know how people get to a place where at the SLIGHTEST inconvenience they feel entitled to argue and get free stuff or discounts, but if you act that way towards me in my workplace, you will get nothing.

I will do what I can to get you everything you need and on your way, but fuck if I reward you for being a dick to me. I guess a grown ass man acting like a fucking child has been working for you, but not today junior. —You get more flies with honey than vinegar.

  1. As soon as said shithead started yelling, I would have called the manager and let him/her decide whether this knob should be thrown out of the store for causing a disturbance. The sense of entitlement some people display is positively sick.

  2. (one day at band camp) I was in a cafe where the cook blew a gasket and swore at the top of his lungs at one of the waitresses. He was such a big prick, i swore to never return.
Then one of the other waitresses explained that a hot oven door was left open, and the cook burned his face on it.
My point is, there is always two sides to every story. Op describes a real prick, but i wont hold it against the business cuz we’ve only heard one side of the story.

  3. I knew this would happen as soon as Ivan got a status card and went to the Biscuit Mall.

  4. Ivan “Last of the Bohunkians” Sonofabitch approves the previous comment.

  5. I agree with you op, however i can tell you EXACTLY where this attitude comes from.

There are companies out there that are absolute crooks, setting arbitrary pricing structures with hidden fees that cause you to pay through the nose for absolutely every little movement you make (Cell phone companies come to mind) And it has fostered a culture whereby call center agents (i used to do tech support so i know this) are instructed to give discounts to people who start to realize their being ripped off. Better placate one person than have to play fair with everybody right?

More than this we were always told that if they got REALLY abusive, to just give them what they wanted to get them off the phone.

What this has done is created a group of people who have learned, in a really pavlovian way i might add, that if they hear a bell ring, they’re gonna get to eat if they play their cards right.

Nobody should be abusive to retail staff. Even when i know i’ve got my stupid cell provider by the balls, I never get abusive. I just say “Well look, it’s not your fault but maybe you could help me cancel this contract. I’ll pay off the phone and then go with (insert competition’s name here) from now on” and that’s usually enough for me to get a slightly more fair deal.

But yeah. I think that, coupled with the growing north american ability to haggle, is where it comes from.

You should see market stalls in china! I really honed my skills there.

  6. I hear ya retail person, I’m not saying what you said was wrong…..BUT……if you think retail sucks, do something else.

Your disspleasure with your job just MAY be a contributing factor to your relationship with the customers and how they respond to your responses to them when they find fault with the store/product/service.

  7. Just lovely Baz. The song of the Merlin clutches a man’s heart and reminds him that there are still some things worth fighting for. It was my great privilege to see our own B.O.B. Memorial Flight beat up Ottawa airport in Sept. of 1990.

  8. Basi of Fawlty – did you know that at a conference of the Ulemma in 2003, the Imam of Jiddah, Sheikh Mahari Plon’qr posed the following rhetorical question:

A)How many memebers of the ummah are required for the changing of an extinct light bulb?

The answer after much deliberation was: None. It is completely haram. The only acceptable response under Shariah is to squat in the dark and blame Amrika and the Jew.

    Salaam Alaykum.

  9. They could, Baz but the average Corp listener would just think it was the new Tegan and Sarah single.

  10. This is why I hated my manager. If anyone complained, even if they were wrong, they got what they wanted (within “reason”) His logic was the money they would lose from a spending customer would be worth more than giving something for free. Fuck that, don’t reward bad behaviour. It’s always the entitled dicks that get what they want while the polite, easygoing people get nothing for being decent human beings.

  11. Some people just think that everybody is out to rip them off and they’re on high alert all the time. He’s also learned that displaying the behavior of a toddler gets him what he wants most of the time. Combine the two together and you have what we in the field call a “twat”.
