…I’ve never lived in any city with its sidewalks awash, year round, in spit gunk of all colours and pools of puke. IT IS DISGUSTING and totally unnecessary, and with treatment-resistant tuberculosis making a comeback, I think it should be tackled as a public health issue. How’s about bringing back anti-spitting by-laws? –Use a public toilet already, not the sidewalks we share

Use a public toilet already, not the sidewalks we share, we love you but…
…you are exaggerating. Treatment-resistant tuberculosis has been around for years but spit on the sidewalk will not transmit it. Chlamydia rates here in Nova Scotia remain the highest in the country for years now. Public Health no longer tracks gonorrhea. Those should be the priority public health issues.
Get off your high horse and enjoy the city. If you can’t, go away.
I’m happy to report that spitting is now popular among teenage girls.
Baby, you’ve come a long way…
Downtown Halifax has been essentially the same for the last…oh…200 hundred plus years, Mr./Ms. Sani Wipe. It’s called ‘city character’.
Maybe you should be advocating for more public toilets. That is a much more important issue.
I agree the spitting and sinus clearing in public is gross (A cyclist got me with wet stuff the other day and he was waiting for the shuttle! Not even biking along!). Not to mention folks who throw their cigarette butts any old place (90% of those are made from plastic) which is littering! AND the stuff that leeches out of them is toxic. Then there are the women who are STILL flushing plastic tampon applicators down the john to wash up on our beaches. ALSO littering. Just asking for a little consideration as to how your actions affect those around you. I doubt this will get printed since it has the word tampon in it… but I would LOVE it if you would. signed – You Just Nasty!
