To those misguided folks who think it’s helpful to honk your car horn when you’re about to pass my bike, it’s not. It is, however, irritating and disconcerting. If you want to help, give me lots of space as you go by. —Cyclist With Ears

Outstanding Thomas. Your rhythms and cadences will get smoother with practice and experience, but you’ve got the look and the voice. (Says the guy with the Grade ‘A’ Radio Face) Great stuff! I really hope it pans out for you.
Also, now that you’ve transitioned to moving pictures, ‘zilla’s got to up his game, big time.
hahaha yes, I imagine he will. Thanks for the kind words and support! Every bit counts
you were so cute, i was shrieking at the bear, it’s one of our tommys!!!
to the op, some drivers are terrified of hitting you. i am not one of them but assume they are giving you a heads up. you know not every bike rider can be trusted, just like walkers and automobile drivers
Yeh. But I told him she didn’t say that because it wasn’t true.
I just made a purple monkey dishwasher remark.
Whatever. When I honk, it’s to get your attention so I can mouth, “You dropped something” and point behind you. Then, I laugh when you turn around to look for something that doesn’t exist. Cyclists are so stupid.
hey tj, very good audition! you kept your head in place, and no dancing around. try to consciously relax the hand holding the mic, it got a little jumpy at the end – the tension goes up your arm into shoulders and neck then to the voice. and look deep into the lens, pretend you see a friend in there. you looked good and had an engaging manner. voice is good too.
re the posting, i am terrified of bikes on the road. would never honk at one, anyone who does has got to be stupid or deliberately cruel.
I always figured a motorist was honking to say “get out of the way”, because they own the road. When I’m cycling this sort of behaviour tells me its not safe to hug the shoulder and I must use the whole lane as my one meter zone is being violated and cars cannot safely pass, hence the honking of the horn. God, motorists are so stupid!
Excellent audition Tommy. Careful though, you might end up in Toronto.
Must agree with OP, honking one’s horn when coming behind the cyclist will succeed in scaring the shit out of them.
Excellent work Tommy!
I do ultra long distance bike tours (I biked the general coast of Nova Scotia in 3 weeks the summer before last, whole route I took was about 3000 kilometers. It’s easier than you think you just have to have a road bike and take your time). People always ask me if I worry about all the fast drivers way out in the middle of nowhere, I tell them that you can hear each car. When someone is driving fast I just move to the shoulder.
Overtaking and Passing
You must signal your intention to pass and sound your horn before overtaking and passing another vehicle. The horn signal places the driver of the vehicle you are passing under a legal obligation to help you to pass. The driver of the vehicle being overtaken must give way to the passing vehicle.

Maybe a little refresher course is in order. Just because most people ignore the rules doesn’t mean you get to complain about them when they’re followed.
cute little booklet. my gawd they spell things out in plain language don’t they?
can you imagine if everyone starting honking, there’d be blood on the roads in no time. it would look like……a hockey game!
There’s always one tool on an internet forum that brings out the “Official Rule Book”, goes back to the days of newsnet news flamewars….
Honkers suck, that’s all there is to be said about that.
Cranky, I’m pretty sure if, for arguments sake, EVERYONE started obeying every rule of the road at all times, you’d have FAR LESS to bitch about.
So STFU with your “oh, but that’s one of those ‘unnecessary’ rules” BS.
If you don’t like the inherent fact that people are jerks and assholes, don’t go out in public and subject yourself to them.
Is that the best you can do?
Well you’re so obviously not trying…
so why should I put forth any effort.
Please do though, give us all one good, honest reason why not honking to let you know we’re passing would make it safer than the system currently in place. I’m dying to know…
’cause “it’s annoying” isn’t quite good enough.
Because it’s startling and could cause us to swerve suddenly, into traffic. You kill us and will have to live with the nightmare of having a vehicular manslaughter on your hands…
Now stop asking annoying questions.
So you’re basically telling me you’re not expecting loud noises while riding a bike outside on the street… You’re destined for death, Meat Wad.
I’ll tell you what, I will give A metre as that what is demanded by law, as long as I don’t see anybody riding their bikes on the sideWALK or the crossWALK.
I’ll tell you what. I’ll respect every law when EVERYONE else follows them first. Good logic there AcadianPrince.
i think i’ll start wearing a helmet all the time
Here are some cool ones:

Why should I suffer because some other dick and cuntheads ride on the side/crosswalk?
haha, *cunthead* good name for harper…the real one, not shitd
