To the stupid official that came up with the plan to lower the cost of the bottle deposit from $0.10 to $0.05 and get the people to put the bottles on the curb for bottle trucks, funded by the government. YOU idiot, they already tried that and it didn’t work. What makes you so sure that it would work again? For that to happen have to shut down the Recycling Depots in the HRM, which thrives off of…you guessed, bottles! So where would people takes bottles. That’s right! You’re gonna let government paid goons pick them up. And to top it off, you’ll make the $0.10 deposit on the resale of them. But…you will be losing with the cost of new trucks and the equipment involved to make that operation, and, on top of it, the cost for you government employed goons. So that leaves us tax payers to pick up the loss from you narrow, mind-on-your-money ideals. So with the closure of Recycling Depots, where the hell do we take our old paint cans, old tv’s, those old, dead batteries that have been rotting away in some tin can too. Really. You idiots. Why the fuck were you elected to your post in government in the first place, I hope you enjoyed all the backdoor and oral action you had to get there. —Driven by Madness

  1. Was it an elected official that came up with this ??? or one member from the herd of unelected ‘government servants’ ( & I use that term servant loosely) hoping to stand out from the rest of the cattle ?
After all why bother considering all you’ve mentioned OB ?
We tax payers can just pay for the salarys to open government paid jobs to recycle all that shit, & as for the bottle drives by charities, the poor who use emptys as a way to suppliment their meager lifestyle …in the thoughts of the person responsible for this idiotic idea ” Fuck them I gotta stand out damn it !”
What we really need is an accountable way to remove the well paid useless individuals who have so little to do, they come up with ideas like this & free them from those jobs , put them on EI & let them spend a few weeks collecting bottles to help make ends meet…. but life ain’t fair ,unfortunately.

  2. was this just bandied about at council? not put into effect. trying to remember my tim b tweets on this….i think the provincials have to change this, but council was hoping for it. but yes, bastards for suggesting it. i set aside the trucksfull of beer & coke cans from this house for a local animal rescue. no fricking way city is going to get them. i would squash them and use for paving stones first.

  3. as far as i know, once the recyclables are at the curb, they belong to the company that collects trash. bums digging and ripping thru trash can actually be charged. or so i have heard. just that the fuzz doesn’t like to take the time to do any paperwork on it.
best idea, hold them for awhile, give them to a charity that is collecting. that’s what i now do, and it works out quite well.

  4. Not to mention how this would negatively impact many low income people in the city. There’s probably a significant number of people who rely on bottle collecting to supplement welfare/disability/cpp. I’d rather some occasional curbside mess over those people potentially having to commit crimes to make up the up the lost income.

  5. what really needs to happen is it needs to be raised to 15 or 20 cents to cover inflation. Thats all

  6. It may be the dumbest idea I’ve heard in a long time. The deposit is one of the few ways people can actually get rewarded for recycling their waste. It is so hard to get most people to get seriously on board with the importance of sorting their waste and disposing of it responsibly.
It’s not so much the bottles themselves but the depots you take them to. They thrive on the bottle exchange and provide means to dispose of other waste like electronics, batteries, metal etc. It’s a real backward step.
