I’ve lived in Dartmouth for a long time and have never had a problem with major crime or safety issues. I live pretty quietly, but do like to host parties at my house once in a while as I have been doing without incident for the past five years. Little did I know it wasn’t stranger danger I really had to worry about, but my own friends. What kind of “friend”, who I invite into my home for a birthday party, locks everyone in the basement and proceeds to rob thousands of dollars worth of electronics from me. To add insult to injury they also helped themselves to my alcohol, food, and protein powder. I know that shit can get expensive but COME ON. I’m not sure if I’m more disgusted over the actual robbery, the fact that they rifled through private areas of my home, or that people know who is responsible and aren’t talking. This is the first time I have ever legitimately felt hatred, and I hope you end up as jail bait you filthy piece of shit. — I </3 Dartmouth

  1. Trust no one. Especially your friends. My best friend of over 40 years tried to rip me off a few years ago for $400 – I never saw it coming because I trusted this woman with my life – I got the money back but our friendship was never the same.

Since you’ll probably never get your stuff back, I’d suggest that you dump this circle of thieving twats and don’t ever host another party unless your stuff is locked away.

  2. “…or that people know who is responsible and aren’t talking.”

Yeah, like Koda said, you invited the person. All you have to do is a quick head count of who was locked in the basement and cross it with a list of everyone you invited. The one who wasn’t in the basement is your culprit.
And how do you get locked in the basement? Could you not have broken down the door? (Granted, I don’t know anything about your house but experience has shown me that most interior doors are hollow core and fairly easy to punch through/kick down/pop the hinge pins on.) When did you realize you were locked in the basement? How did you get free?

I’m not trying to make light of your situation, OB. It no doubt sucks, but I’m just trying to understand how this all went down.

  3. So your response is to write a bitch about the experience?

No calling police/filing a report/having them lay charges?!

You KNOW who did it (presumabley you too were locked in the basement) but chose to write a bitch?!

    Bullshit!

  4. it’s not a new thing, people stole from my folks at their cocktail parties, i’d be more pissed about my alleged friends than about my stuff

  5. Ahhhh , OB learning the difference between friends & acquaintances can be a very expensive lesson.

Sorry to hear of your loss, in case you still are ‘on the fence’ about yer so called friend …call the police (if you haven’t already) & charge them & make sure you see it through to the end .

    take care

  6. Was this a ‘marihuana’ party? Were you taking too much of the pot to figure out it was the guy who wasn’t in the basement?

  7. Happened to HU back in the 70s – acquaintances of friends obviously cased the joint on a visit – fuckers busted into HU’s digs while he was out grocery shopping – these shit stains stole his best friend, his Martin D35 and most of his gear and furnishings.

Like I originally said: DON’T TRUST ANYONE when it comes to valuables. We had many an item ripped off by so-called friends who borrowed something and never returned it – they’ll even insult your intelligence by saying they never had it in the first place. When it comes to our stuff, we’re fucking inbred Rotties.

  8. Poster here to clear some things up! Police reports have been filed but they won’t do anything since it was a house party. I know who did it but without solid evidence the police refuse to lay charges. This person wasn’t invited to the party but came with some people who I did invite and they’ve been around, so I figured no big deal to invite them into my house(worked out really well didnt it). My house has a door that locks between the basement and the main floor that can only be locked from the main floor. I ran around the front and opened it but I stupidly assumed that it had been locked by accident when someone was leaving so I really didn’t look into anything further. It wasn’t until te next morning that I had realized everything was gone. This was almost a month ago, trust me my first move was not to make a bitch! Just needed to vent my frustrations with trying to get my stuff back.

  9. Do you have a four inch steel door in your basement? You have no escape plan incase you’re “locked” down there? So I guess calling the cops was out of the question. Nobody at your party had a cell phone? Couldn’t call a neighbour? Holy Shit I could go on, but you lack the intelligence of problem solving.

  10. Real sorry you had this happen dart902. So much for extending hospitality, eh? Hopefully somebody decides to come forward and you at least get some of your stuff back. Unfortunately, I don’t think your chances are very good.
    Best of luck.

  11. Locked in the basement and you don’t know who did it? Hm. I’m guessing the guy who said “get in the basement now, motherfuckers or i start shooting”

Or.. if you were already in the basement and he sneak-locked it.. i guess the guy who wasn’t there with everyone else.

EDIT: oh i just read your post.. shit op that sucks ass. But you have WITNESSES right? People who also knew this person wasn’t with the rest of you while this took place..

You know.. there are lots of legal avenues for vigilante justice.. just so you know. Know what i’d do? Get him close. Don’t act like you know it was him. Confide in him. Keep him near you. And fuck with his life as much as possible. THe closer you keep your enemies, the less they know of your intentions.

  12. When you discover your shit is stolen, IMMEDIATELY call every pawn shop in the city and report that if this item comes in, to call you immediately or risk a tangle with the police.

This worked for me once. Someone stole a valuable set of antique figurines from me once and the first thing i did after filing a report was to call every pawn shop in a 50 km radius and warn them. This was in the UK, granted. But it worked.

I had to resort to this because the cops said it was a civil matter. The thief was my roommate.
