I crave a way to tackle it legally rather then experiencing it as a conversational piece over drinks in a detached theological formula with people who already believe in its decriminalization. I’m so sick of speaking about it in an abstract way and always ending up with the same conclusion: “Yeah things need to change, but what can you do? Write articles and blogs (wordpress, youtube, facebook) and generate interest in your cause, then start a petition. When you have enough signatures, write to your MLA, call your local constituency office or make an appointment.
You just started. Now tell the government. You have an MLA. Stepping Stone can help. There are national.sex worker organizations. Call the media – they LOVE first-person experiences. Keep talking to anyone and everyone.
Run for office.
You’ll have this vote.

I dont give a flying fuck about your life story that got you to this point, what drugs you’re hooked on or what douche gave you a baby to support. We’ve all gone thru rough times. Some of us just took the hard way out instead. You’re never going to gain any respect with your current lifestyle.
Secretly though, everyone else wishes they could do the same thing. Why? because we all love to fuck. Its easy and feels good. And who wouldn’t wanna get paid for it?!
But it dosnt matter how advanced our civilization gets. Sex is primal. Sex is dirty and scandalous. There will certainly always be a need for a new, adventurous hole to explore. And that’s how its going to be for the next 200 years.

Much love to you for wanting to do this work. This movement has to centre the voices of sex workers and put their needs first! Y’al have the best knowledge of what needs to change and how, not some politician in a suit. I would reccomend connecting with local and national groups who are doing solid pro-sex worker advocacy already and would benefit from and appreciate your passion and lived-experience, you know? You can reach out to stepping stone in halifax and stella in montreal. Maybe even South House in Halifax? Those are a good start to link you up with other groups. If you are interested in legal changes you could contact DFLA (dalhousie feminst law association) at the law school and I am sure students would be interested in supporting you/doing a workshop on sex workers rights etc. Maybe try to explore public legal education through community justice centres like LISNS or Dal Legal Aid and see what they can do to support your work. Just some suggestions! What you are doing is important and good and you are so strong for wanting to engage in this fight. Don’t listen to dinosaur people like the commenter above who hold very ugly moralizing garbage ideas about what sex work is. From a former sex worker, lemme just say that you rule and I am proud of you!
