The sign is up, my till is open, and I’m counting money. “Uh, herp derp, are you open?” Bitch, does it look like I’m open?! Every single time I’m getting ready to open some douchenozzle interrupts my counting to ask me that goddamn question! NOW I HAVE TO FUCKING START ALL OVER AGAIN BECAUSE YOU FUCKING MADE ME LOSE COUNT! Seriously, fucking think! But no, obviously those other people are standing in line at the other registers because they have nothing better to do and I’m just counting money for shits and giggles. For fuck’s sake! Now take your impatient ass to the back of the line and stand there for twice as long while I have to start all over again. –Tired of this Shit

here, practise with those numbers til you are able to keep a thought while distractions happen.
“Herp derp”
Someone’s reading dlisted!
counting is hard ….’specially when ya gotta go past 10 & that means takin’ off yer darn shoes !
I think most of them do it hoping that you’ll say, “Well, shucks! I’m not open but I’d be glad to re-open just to serve you!”
Stupid self-entitled twats.
Op, get an education, retail is not a place to be.
Well SOMEONE has to do retail. Someone has to deal with those ‘self important people’ who think they Must get through the check-outs First. The same ones are driving in the parking lot like it was the Expressway. Slow down people. We KNOW you are impatient and God knows you ARE SO Important that the rules of common curtesy and the rules of driving in a parking lot DON”T apply to you. I pity you OP having to start over and over because some twit can’t wait a few minutes! But I guess that is all part and parcel of dealing with the public. Maybe you should leave the chain up and the closed sign lit until you are really ready to deal.
The oblivitrons at the drugstore I once worked at were terrible. Sometimes a cashier would forget to turn his/her light off when leaving the cash, but would always put the “NEXT REGISTER PLEASE” sign up. There would always be one smartie-pants who would line up there, look at the sign, move it out of their way and start loading their baskets on the counter. I’d yell across, “That one’s closed, sorry.”
Then they’d argue with me, “But the light’s on!”
“…There’s no one there…”
“Oh okay.” *mosey on over*
Kontee!! I’m shocked!
Keep a pen and paper with you OP so you don’t lose your place when the bonehead approaches.
You know, I like you OP. mmmhmmm
OP, STFU. I have been a cashier, damn good one as well. You do not like the job? Then GTFO, and let someone needs a job work there. douche.
Maybe this should be taken up with your employer – it is not safe for a single person by him/her self to be counting a presumably full till of cash in the open public. One punch, hit etc, grab the money and run – its an invitation to be assaulted at work. I would refuse to to this until they provided you with a safe place to take your till and count it – then problem solved – you wont have populated “closed” lanes where people think you’re there to serve them but in reality you’re risking your well-being for the front end manager who has been there for 15 years, smokes three packs a day, has a faded name tag with the name Donna and makes 11 bucks an hour.
The obvious solution to all of life’s problems…
arm everyone.
