  1. i remember her…that was my best friend’s nickname when i lived in ottawa. i am intrigued by the roller derby, i can’t skate but my shoulders are dangerous weapons

  2. Paul “The Bear” Rupert was star of the guyz team. That and Stampede Wrestling out of Calgary were my faves growing up in Alberta. While all the other kids were tossing each other around the playground I was standing there with a stick pretending to be Eed Whalen, the commentator.

  3. we are almost the same age…i watched midget wrestling, tag team no less…and i seem to remember a wrestler named killer kowalski

  4. Dan Crawfoot was one of the good guys in Calgary. The baddies were Archie “The Stomper” Goldie , an Asian guy called Tor Komata (Torquemada – geddit?) and my fave – Abdullah the Butcher from Khartoum in the Soo-dan. This was when Stu Harte was doing a lot of behind the scenes work, but before his sons launched their careers. We came here in ’78 and I had to get used to The Cuban Assassin and Killer Karl Krupp. My best friend in HS in Truro used to work at the A&W when it was a fer-real drive-in and every Friday night the Grand Prix wrestler’s vans used to stop there on the way back from New Glasgow – Chubby Chicken – all breast meat. They’d be cleaned out till Monday.
