I know you’re all broke, but if you want to drive a car, you should have enough money on hand to keep BOTH your headlights running. I must see 10-12 cars a night with burnt out headlights or taillights. Also, while I’m on the topic of car safety, I’d like to remind you to PUT WINTER TIRES on your car NOW!!! It’s just starting to snow, and I know there are thousands of you cheap ignorant pricks out there waiting for the first big shit storm before you get your winter tires put on. Happens every year. Please, don’t wait any longer. —Winter is Coming

Commence Game Of Thrones hijacking!
As far as I’m concerned , as soon as I can’t go for a swim in the river I live on ….its winter !
So it ain’t “coming” its here !

OB, to paraphrase what you said,(whether it be sarcastic or not) I know you are broke, but at least try to afford headlights and tail lights for your car. Oh, and BTW, get winter tires put on, now. A bit of a price gap there, no? Light bulbs to tires, well if they possibly can’t afford those bulbs…tires might be a stretch?
for heaven’s sake, just let them all end up in the ditch and leave more road for you
this is equally annoying http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archiv…
o.p., headlights have been known to blow, poof, just like that. i remember getting a car i had saftied one day. drove in, everything worked, got passed no sweat, drove out, turned lights on, because it started to get dark when i was there. poof, no left light. pulled back in, asked guy to check, burned out light. put new one in,60 bucks later that night, didn’t the new one go out n me.
went back next day, had wiring checked, no trouble there, had fuses checked, again no trouble. just a faulty fucking light. drove home, and never had another problem while i had that car.as to tires now, different thing altogether. your life and maybe mine depends on what kind of tread you have on your vehicle. the all season tires are not, i repeat, are not for all year driving. you need winter tires, or mud/snow tires on it to help slow and stop you in case you need a quick slow or stop. i get a kick out of these fucking fools that think all season tires are okay for snow and ice. NEWS FLASH BUNKY, THEY FUCKING ARE NOT.
yeah, all seasons, except winter. they don’t work worth a damn
my michelin all seasons on my old tercel worked in snow. those tires were (to use a much overused word) AWESOME
we got a good deal on snow tire install from a small place in lawrencetown last weekend. in and out in under an hour on a last minute appt. good guys.
i’ve never crashed a car but i’ve had those “oh hell” moments when the brakes, gas and steering wheel decide not to work. that’s when you follow the plow/salt truck
and for those of you like cats, look at my pic here.
tell me it’s alive^^
my old tercel, blow me, one headlight was always out. if i put a new one in on the broken side, the other would go out within a day or two. i carried a spare light in the glove compartment to show cops, i was always getting stopped.
i love car stories… the bear had a toyota corona, we hit a milk truck on the back roads of northern ontario, both vehicles carried on
ha! next time ask diane about car stories, she has a million of them. i sure miss my old tercel. i abused that thing, put oil in only when the red light came on. drove it cross country, played chicken with logging trucks, passed cars on the grapevine hill ‘like they was standing still’ in 115 degree heat because it had no a/c. and i was powered on 2 cases of coke.
for sure OP. I just changed a headlight myself. Cost a whopping $9.99 + tax. Even a one armed blind monkey could do it.
painy, i would guess that yes, it is alive. molly, i used to have an 85 tercel too. fucking near had to beat it to death with an axe to kill it. but that was when they actually made a car to last more than 1 year. the shit they build today is, well, shit. i also had this big old fucking monster of a 54 desoto, member those ones. flathead 6 and go like a scalded bitch in heat. but the best deal i ever had, was a 1964 ford galaxie 500 ragtop. traded a guy a timex watch for it, of course that was back in the 70’s. car was from b.c., and in mint condition. yep, the older ones were the best. more old buddy, you still driving your kaiser?
mine was a hatchback. squeezed an oversized loveseat in the back of it and drove half across bc. loved that thing.
had a boyfriend in high school in the forces, he came and picked me up every day at lunch in a 64 red convertible mustang. man that was a pretty car.
and first family car with husband was a old gold galaxie. we would pile the kids in the back with quilts and pillows and go for drive-in ice cream at ‘the bridge’ in winnipeg when it was too hot to sleep.
diane had a 71 chevy impala, blue with a white vinyl top that she called her bar-car. she could sleep in it when she was too drunk to drive home. she’s pretty tall gal, but could stretch out.
no salt on the roads in bc, cars last. our echo now, started its life in bc.
i remember sleeping in the back of our old volvo station wagon. this was before seatbelts but they were the tanks of cars
yeah, i always held the baby on my lap.
one of the lost treasures of kid-dom, falling asleep in the back of the car and getting carried into the house and tucked into bed.
Snow tires? We have snow do we? The winters are so mild now that we have what, four maybe five days with snow-covered roads from November to March. If you have all-seasons or summer tires on, best to bank a few vacation days in case it snows.
i don’t put snows on the dogmobile, i just don’t go out if it snows. one of the perks working from home.
you seem to have a heckuva commute tf. not something you can do through remote desk?
No Molly, I have a hands-on kind of job, I have to be there. I actually keep snow tires on the car in the winter as insurance in case I get caught in inclement weather.
Although I was being semi-facetious in my post, I do think that, if one didn’t commute a great distance and could bank days off, they could get away without snow tires. The winters are getting milder and the snow removal is quite adequate.
even if you have the best tires in the world, you still have to drive safely to avoid accidents
when I had a small car, I bought winter tires and they lasted a long time, better than 5 seasons.
However, with a pickup truck, the extra weight will wear down a set of winter tires in 2 seasons. Plus they cost twice as much, too.
Does someone sell aggressive all seasons that take studs?
remember the old volkswagon bugs. they could go thru just about anything. i remember a 65 that i had, and was driving across chocolate lake, to the keddys motel from the opposite side.
water was of course frozen solid, or so i thought.about 3/4 way over, didn’t the damn thing break thru, and go in the water, but holy shit, it floated.si i just keep the gas down, and made it to shore, barely. i keep that old thing for about 4 years, and finally had it smashed into one day and damaged front beyond fixing.
a buddy of mine that used to hang with lauchie macdonald and the tribe, had an old harley that was bashed up in the back. so we got together, and joined the two of them in dirty dave’s garage in sprytown. was the weirdest thing around for quite awhile, then there were more than you could want, less than a year later. it was nicknamed the harwagon.
