I hope you are enjoying your 1 month off. Isn’t it nice to have a government job so you can get your doctor’s note and be off for 4 whole weeks without question. You still find lots of time and energy to have drinks with your friends two or three times a week. Yes, you must be very sick indeed. Get back to work, you lazy fuck. You’re taking advantage of tax-payers and making your co-workers hate you. —Disgruntled co-worker

Valid bitch. People should not lie about being sick, especially when they can still work. My motto is “if you can walk and party, you can work.’
Nah, everyone should fo this. You can get upwards of three months of employment insurance sick leave. Now there’s a summer!
Sounds like someone is incredibly jealous. Nothing that a signed (provincial gov’t.)#444 form couldn’t resolve. Just tell your doc that all this coworker anxiety is making you unfit to fulfil your job duties.
Or if you want to get nasty about it, follow that person around with your cell phone camera and post those ‘well & thriving’ pix on Fartbook. I’m sure the government would be so grateful, they’d have t-shirts printed emblazoned with your scowling face and the caption: ‘I’m Watching U!’
All that envy is making you sicker than the person who’s supposedly sick. How’s that working for you?
Why is this any of your business? You don’t get to determine the specifics of another person’s illness.
Be glad you don’t have a health problem that requires taking a few weeks off. People might start to criticize you for spending some time with friends to break your isolation.
There’s this old saying: “don’t believe anything you hear and only half of what you see.”
Simply because you don’t have all the facts.
There’s another old saying too: MYOB
You sound like the type of Prick that would have no problem saying, if this was a mental health issue and this person committed suicide, that “they did it for attention” or “to make people feel guilty” or “wow what a selfish person for taking the easy way out” or some other BS that revolves around you and your perspective and perception of what this persons illness should look like to you.
How many countless times has it been said, “I had no idea, they seemed okay/happy”? Unless you have a view into their thoughts and are with them in their alone time, you have no idea about their mental health issues. Most people look fine/normal until they make that fateful decision to end it all.
But hey, people suffering that should probably isolate themselves from the world, not be social and happy, and spend that month rocking back in forth in their apt/house until they come to the end of their happy go lucky month of non stop partying, free vacation time WOOT WOOT
Why yes it is nice to have a gov’t job,Dr….oh wait, you’re not a Dr……fuck off.
I had a coworker once who, to put it kindly, was not the most productive elf in Santa’s workshop. It would have been nice to have a better coworker but it wasn’t my job to fix the problem – it was management’s job. That’s why they are paid the big bucks. My job was to do my own work. And eventually they did find a better job fit for the person.
In this case, OB, I am sure management is more aware of the exact situation than you are because they have seen the doctor’s report. It’s up to them to decide appropriate action. And if the sickie has a long history of underperformance it is still up to management to remedy the situation. I think almost all people want to be productive but sometimes the person needs a mental or physical health intervention, or sometimes they just need to be moved into a more suitable role.
