We had 2 separate bills (2 separate meals to ourselves). My friend got her meal and you informed me that my meal will be out shortly… My question for you is why did my meal come 5-6 minutes later than my friend’s? Shortly to me is about 1-2 minutes. By the time I got my meal, my friend was half way done, leaving me to catch up. When you came by to check up on things, I brought this to your attention. You claimed that you had left a note to the kitchen that you wanted my pasta and my friend’s pizza at the same time, and they didn’t follow through to the exact minute. Plus you didn’t want to leave my friend’s meal sitting there getting cold. You apologized for the wait and offered to refill our drinks. Um, no thanks! If I wanted a refill I would have asked, you twit!
It was great for you to apologize but that doesn’t cut it; when two people eat out it’s not hard to time separate meals to the minute.

Your meal came 5 – 6 minutes after your friend’s and this is a problem? That ain’t half bad as restaurant service goes. Your waitress apparently explained where the “delay” occurred and offered to refill your drinks. That’s more compensation than you should reasonably expect for a wait of FIVE TO SIX MINUTES but that wasn’t good enough for you so no tip for the waitress.
I think it’s ridiculous when folks punish wait staff for problems they don’t cause and don’t have the authority to “fix” as in a free meal.
Maybe you should stick to eating at McDonald’s.

I’ve been a server before and I am so relieve to see the overwhelming support for this poor server. Really, if you don’t want your meals coming at different timing, go to a buffet. Alternatively, try going to a different country, where being served at different timing is the cultural norm, not the exception.

After working in a kitchen, OP, I can only tell you that you’re being unreasonable. It’s not the server’s fault how fast the food is cooked or whether or not it’s timed properly. I can completely understand her perspective, because then the food would’ve just gotten cold while waiting for yours. And who cares if it took like five extra minutes? Do you not realize how small an amount of time that is?

Had you been a server before, you would realize that many things that ever go wrong in restaurants are rarely the fault of the server, and clearly this is a case where the kitchen fucked up and it was out of the little blonde waitress’s hands.
You had to wait 5-6 minutes, oh boo fucking hoo! It was not her fault that the kitchen didn’t follow her orders (to time the meals together) and that your friend eats fast! And to me, it seems like you had a damn good server– she was attentive, apologized, gave a solid excuse as to why your meal came later, and offered you refills. She even said she didn’t want your friend’s meal to get cold, and I’m sure had your meal came first, she would have done the same for you! So shut the fuck up!
Now if you waited 10-15+ minutes for your meal (after your friend got hers), your server gave you an attitude instead of an apology and didn’t offer any refills, you would have had a valid bitch, you TWIT!

Granted, I haven’t read all the comments here but to avoid such a problem in the future… order on the same bill (chits arrive in the kitchen at the same time and processed as a same-table order) then work out who pays what with your friend AFTER you’ve eaten. You CAN divide by two without the aid of a young waitress, right?

You have obviously never been in a working kitchen and have absolutely no idea on how hard a servers job is. it wasn’t the waitresses fault that your order got fucked. its the kitchen. one of 2 things happened; 1-you insisted on separate bills when placing your order, causing her to put it into the kitchen separately and then they disregarded her when she told them it was the same table.

2- they had them ready and you made one last minute change, “oh i need that with no onions” just as it’s being plated. and they scrambled to make a new one.
so rather than tell you that your demands were harder to meet then usual, she was gracious enough to take the blame. you should have said thank you for making the extra effort to spare your feelings. because it’s obvious you didn’t show her the same courtesy.
