i think it’s facetious. i saw this on the news last night. felt ill.
What’s more revealing is if the province gives a tax roll break, doesn’t that mean that the charges the province is leveling are already too high? Lower the taxes and companies will be clamoring to come here.
but why o.p., why.
is it the same deal the call centres and plants got then closed up? WTF they could just give each employee 100K and tell them to shut up. if they absolutely feel the need to give money to companies why not local companies starting up? or existing companies to expand.

anyone read william gibson? we are going to end up with nothing except multinationals, global corporations and chain stores, nothing but chain stores.
so all our cities/provinces/countries whatever now have to whore themselves to get companies to ‘spend the night’ with them. except ‘we’ are paying the ‘johns’. WTH?
They’re going to be employing a few hundred local people, so what’s the problem?
Oh right, it’s private-sector, so NSGEU won’t be able to get their cut. More proof public sector unions only care about enriching themselves, even if it means less jobs for the community.
my opinion on this has nothing to do with unions. i am not in one, i don’t work with unions, for unions or in a union. my gripe is that they are pandering to a multinational that will most likely bugger off as soon as the sugar is over. instead of giving the work to a local, private company. gee. and most likely non union.
