Dear Bikers of the HRM:
If you are going to use the streets of the HRM to make your daily commute via bicycle, please pay attention and follow the rules of the road. Stop signs do apply to you and the next time you run one you may not be so lucky. Instead of me giving you a beep of the horn and for some reason your response was a fist in the air, you may get hit in the process and severely injured. I hope that you do not end up the poster child for poor bicycling judgment.
So if you are reading this (biker couple that ran the stop sign going through the intersection of Morris and Queen circa 8am today) do me a favor and stop giving bike enthusiasts like me a bad name.
Safe travels. —2nd Bike Bitch of the year

another one, all the fucking loonies are out today. fuck the bikes and the riders. if they get ignorant on the road, put them the fuck off to the side. either that or get out and smack them once or twice in the head, to jar some sense into it. if that don’t work, just drive the fucking way you choose to, and goddamn them all.
Agree with OP and LS. Also, and I’m probably beating a dead horse here, but if I’m walking on the sidewalk I shouldn’t have to keep an eye out for bikers speeding straight towards me. Seems to be a common occurrence on Quinpool, so maybe I’ll start carrying a cain…
*cane
I refuse to step aside for bikers on a sidewalk. If you crash into me on your bike I’ll assault you with it.
This reminds me, the day after I read a bitch from a cyclist telling car drivers to recognize bicycles as traffic and treat them as such, I saw a cyclist ignore a stop sign.
This isn’t to say that I will intentionally give hard time to cyclists, but if you want to be treated as traffic, you have to start acting like one.
I keep seeing more and more ADULTS riding bikes on the sidewalk. WTF is up with that?? Only yesterday there was a guy on the sidewalk on Robie, a girl on North crossing Robie on the crosswalk, almost ran into a little old man, also trying to cross, then I was running down Inglis and a bike come up behind me at a stop sign and almost runs into me! Jesus Christ, get OFF THE SIDEWALKS! They aren’t for YOU. These streets weren’t even particularly busy, there’s no reason why they can’t bike in the street where they belong.
I wish the police would charge cyclists for driving on sidewalks, driving across crosswalks, for failing to yield, and failing to stop at a posted stop sign. If they want to use the road, they must be forced to obey the same rules that cars do.
boring
If drivers have to pass a test to be on the road bikers should also have to pass a test to be on the road.
Are we talking just rolling right through the stop sign or some sort of a rolling stop ? because the percentage of motorists that come to a complete stop at a stop sign is very small. I find it funny how everyone in here is all about “if you going to ride a bike then follow the rules of the road” but most of the people out there driving in this city aren’t following the rules of the road either.
And don’t get me started on the brain dead people walking around the city. Quit being hypocrites and practice what you preach.
Hey Snoop, not that I want to encourage this debate but all of the people that I know who own/ride bikes also have their driver’s licenses.
I’ve also paid taxes/registration fees for car ownership for the past, oh I don’t know, 20 years.
Hey maybe we should have some rule that limits access to the roads based on how many years, or better yet, total accumulated fees/taxes paid out? The people who pay the most get special stickers and can use the roads 24/7 and others who spend/pay less can only use their cars/bikes alternate M/W/F’s or maybe just weekends! How awesome would that be?
I posted this before; years ago a cyclist on the sidewalk almost hit me, so I pushed him off his bike and he broke his arm and I laughed my arse off.
I can’t believe the moronic comments here! In a city which hasn’t learned what a fucking signal light means??? Get real, the cyclists aren’t polluting the air and clogging the streets.
Autos are…so much so that streets like Quinpool Road are not safe for cycles. Little wonder they’re on the sidewalk.
Implement a user pay fee at the rotary, reduce the number of vehicles using it daily, then I am sure there will be more room for bicycles… where they belong.
It is too bad that somebody’s right turn into Great Ocean was so much more important than a cyclist’s life yesterday.
Fuckheads, you got 2 mirrors on a vehicle for a purpose. Use the goddam things!
What does pollution have anything to do with cyclists not observing traffic rules?
By the way, your fart is an air pollution too.
I must be in a bad mood. I am never this rude on The Coast.
it be otay. one thing has nowt to do with t’other
Pedestrians jaywalk. Drivers speed. Cyclists ride through stop signs. SHUT THE F*** UP. Have you any idea how impossible it is to bike in this ridiculous city? I’ve lived in every province in this country and Halifax ranks amongst the WORST places to bike in Canada. Drivers hate you, pedestrians hate you, the city hates you, it’s pretty much just a lose lose situation here. I’ve trained in the same courses bicycling police officers have to take and STILL drivers treat me like I’M the idiot. No. I know the laws, I know the rules, I follow them religiously. . . and yet. . .I’m always the bad guy.
Yes tresorla, hence my reference to pollution. Halifax needs to wake up and accept the fact the buses and bicycles should be the only viable transport onto the peninsula that should have amenities created in the future.
But reading above, one could assume that cyclists are not wanted here.
forget assuming, I think it’s pretty clear…
unless you’re a cyclist…
cyclists aren’t wanted here.
