Lineups would be at least a half shorter if we all just took out $20 for small purchases every once in awhile instead of absolutely using debit every time. Oh, and if your card is old replace it so you’re not at the cashier swiping five times. —I Don’t Have Time For Lineups ALL the Time.

  1. How about those people who haul out their debit for a $2.32 puchase, not even blinking over service fee of $1.50? I’m with you, OP.

  2. i hate cash refuse to use it counted today when i bought lunch 6 bucks used visa took 14 seconds from finish of ringing in and me leaving. No fees with visa i get points which give me free money. Person behind me used cash was 45 seconds digging it out then the cashier blankly trying to add the sum of a quarter and a dime together to give them change. I wish we would just get rid of cash all together

  3. I love my debit card and rarely use cash. If have cash in my wallet and lose it, the money is gone. If I lose my debit card, I’m out nothing. Plus, it usually takes a cashier longer to count out change than it does for my transaction to go through.

  4. Don’t worry, they are working on it. Then you can succumb to yet another system of control. Better yet, let’s get rid of the whole banking system, be the spiritual beings we were meant to be, stop being glutenous, hoarding, materialistic pigs and simply live for today rather than amass for the future. Oh wait, what am I saying, that’s impossible, nobody wants to live in paradise. My mistake.

  5. Paying with cash takes me just as long because I spend time looking for the right amount of change to provide, so as to avoid getting pennies in return.

Also, if people want to pay $0.75 for debit fees let them. It’s the cost of convenience. And most places don’t charge for debit.

  6. Maybe if breaking a 20 didn’t result in 3.5 pounds of change in my pocket I’d consider it.

Perhaps dumb asses should learn how to use debit machines – i.e. they aren’t all the same, the “Chequing” button isn’t in the same place on every machine. Some require chips to be inserted (notice “Inserted” – meaning the chip goes in the machine, not the other way around) and maybe learn to read the instructions on the machine so that you get it right the first time.

Also – if it says Insufficient Funds, do you really think that trying it a second time is going to magically make funds appear? Obviously you don’t have money in the account so stop pretending that something messed up at the bank. They don’t mess these things up. Maybe you just deposited the money but for some legitimate reason it is not available to spend right now.

Get with the times everyone, stop lugging around pounds of cash that only equates $18.75 and start using plastic.

As for the retailers – get with the times. Dial up debit machines as a main form of debit is unacceptable. Get a high speed internet line installed so that the approval is instant, not some 45 send ordeal while a phone line frees up and a call can be placed answered and accepted at 2400 BAUD.

Also fo call you $2 per transaction counter bitchers, use a bank that has free unlimited checking – several do it, especially those super ones in stores, where the president has a choice.

  7. How many holdups and muggings would be prevented with a no-cash system?
Thus saving on police time and effort, paperwork, etc…

It’d be cheaper to go cashless… and who’s paying those stupid fees?
My plan has unlimited debit as do most options these days.

  8. Sometimes I pay cash, sometimes debit, so OB I will continue to do it my way, it’s really none of your business how other people want to conduct their payments.

  9. As a cashier, people who use cash usually take longer than people who use debit. Most of them are older in age and have to count out the EXACT change, therefore it takes 5 times longer than it would to just tap or insert your card, and soon you will be able to just tap your debit card too (under certain amounts), so it will be even faster.

  10. Not to mention not having to produce the actual money anymore, saving the government more currency in ink, plastic-y paper, minting costs, saving all those metals for other, more appropriate use. How about vending machine owners who wouldn’t all just be completely borked because the government decided they wanted to change the size of a loonie by a couple millimeters…
    just swipe and go.

And the lack of virus’ spreading through passive contact since money is absolutely filthy…

There’s SO many good reasons… I’m just not sure how it would affect cyber-crime stats.

  11. The newer toonies are a different weight too I think. They don’t work at the vending machine at my work, but honestly that’s not a terrible thing…

  12. zZz, one would think so but nowadays the criminal element are carrying weapons and have forced people to ATMs (and few actually have cameras) and drained their accounts.

  13. But drug dealers don’t take debit!! I don’t think one method really takes that much longer than the other. If it’s taking forever bitch at the store for not getting with the times and getting a high speed connection for their debit, not the people who don’t like carrying cash because you can lose it or have it stolen from you.

    Losing cash fucking sucks.

Anyway OP don’t be such a pissant.

  14. Ok, Bro Tim… but what would they be going to the ATM for with a no-cash society?
They’d have to walk into the bank and get the transfer completed…
but I’m assuming that might set off a few alarms since… It’s a BANK.
Or will they be carrying wifi debit machines now?
That would be a pretty comedic hold-up with a paper-trail to follow since it’s a debit transaction.

  15. i agree in point o.p., but not in general. the less cash you have on you, the less you could be robbed of. most cabs would prefer debit, and who wants to steal a machine.

  16. Yeah. I hate purchasing items with a thousand dollar bill and getting back all those hundreds and fifties. That’s why I use debit.

  17. When I see the bums on Spring garden with WiFi debit machines bumming “change” I’ll know its time to move much deeper into the woods !

  18. Big time debit user myself. It really makes more sense than cash although I like to keep a bit of cash on hand in case debit’s down. You know, for my Tim’s and all.

  19. Actually, Thomas, I know of some dealers who DO take debit.

Also: if I’m paying my bank fees and they give me unlimited debits, you can bet your arse Imma get my money’s worth. That and it helps keep track of my spending and I like seeing where my money’s going.

  20. People are able to track their spending habits easier if they use debit or credit. I find the people who use cash all the time are always the ones left wondering were all their money went so quickly. Also with no cash in my wallet I can honestly tell all the bums on spring garden “Sorry, I don’t have any change”, that is, until they start carrying debit machines.
