Why are there such inconsistent and long delays in bitch posts being submitted? My god how antiquated is the blog uses? Obviously this is someones hobby, and they have a day job.
Rather than have a person do this, why not let users approve posts by voting them as inappropriate or spam, or just voting them thumbs up or down in general? —Go philly

FYI:
I wasn’t going to post this bitch but I figured why not, gives me a chance to respond…
So for those who care I can tell you this isn’t a hobby or a part-time job. As the Online Community Editor and Front Desk Enforcer at The Coast (aka Mod. 4.0/Robyn McNeil) I have a wide variety of tasks on my plate. My job(s) involve a lot more than simply updating and monitoring the Bitch and Love pages.
And while the suggestion that the community post and monitor said posts on their own is inspired it is not in any way practical. The majority of submissions require at least minor editing, many require a fairly serious reworking in order to maintain the anonymity required to past the ‘Does this get posted?’ test.
We aim to have new posts up on a regular basis, and try to keep gaps in the posts to less than 24 when possible. If it does take longer rest assured there is a good reason, like being crazy busy or not having submissions to post.
Mod. 4.0
and then there’s maude…she keeps the nasty beasties away. rawk
Every 24 hrs is perfectly reasonable. Keep on keepin’ on.
yeah, I think Robyn’s doing a wonderful job…
Tim used to go on vacation spring/summer and it would be days before getting something new to bitch about at times.
Mod’s been consistently every 12-24 hours.
keep it up!
understandable that this isn’t as easy as it appears, but there must be a way to have this done with minimal human intervention. Computers are our slaves, but apparently it is the opposite.
On the globeandmail.com, story comments are passed through a filter that screens for language. While the moderators go through comments and remove some the filter missed. But nonetheless, they are sent through and seen immediately, with no delay.
how do you propose flagging every business name in the city then?
and it can’t be a flat file, it has to be a living document since businesses are openning and closing all the time. Who’s going to maintain that? and would that be easier than just reading a few bitches a day and taking the names out?
something tells me the coast doesn’t link up to any government business directory which you would need to ensure specific locations aren’t divulged in the original bitches themselves.

I need a job, I could do it zzz! hah
Just joking,
Mod 4.0 aka Robyn, you rock!
This is the last place I want to turn into like Digg or other sites where the users vote on what is good or not. It would be great for The Coast’s user levels, but then 90% of the users would be slave accounts. Meanwhile, stupid shit gets bumped to the top of the pile.
Also, I’m sure that there are scripts out there that would allow to scrub language in posts, but given that there are other considerations like costs for bandwidth, hosting, etc. I doubt The Coast has the cash for such a setup. The National Shame (oops, Post) is a nationwide paper with better cash flow than a free weekly.
Keep up the good work Mod 4.0.
aaah the national pain…you get to read conrad black’s drivel. this is the only site i post on. what’s digg or do i not want to know?
you do not want to know….. just walk away….
then a bunch of dickheads would get on here with multible names and vote their comment stayed. no the way it is is fine by me. the only question i have, is where my facebook bitch went, and for why? it was pretty straight forward, and contained only the truth, with no slander or liabel in it. figure it out, mod.4.0
Cutbacks.
You mean you’re not watching for new submissions 24/7?
You do a good job, Robyn. If it’s a moderated board, it has to be moderated and that takes time. Good job.
try again lifer ^^^
Mod 4.0, you’re doing a hell of a lot better than the last one! I do miss Andy though. My only criticism is that you almost seem a bit too tame.
