Its been nearly a week and no Brexit bitching? Does anyone even read the news around here any more? Or is everyone just reading the minutes of the city council meetings these days. —Cheerio

  1. I think most people are aware of Britains departure from the E.U. nothing to bitch about, I live in Canada. The world is a fucked up place right now. Bitching about every worldly event would be overwhelming. I assume that’s why people tend to keep bitches local.

  2. Yeah living in Canada we have our own issues to complain about. Though, since you brought it up to hell with the EU. Would you want our laws set by un-elected bureaucrats in an other country who are accountable to no one. All the while German insanity on immigration is destroying the cultural and ethnic identities of Europe, that have been around for thousands of years. Good on Britain for at least trying to make a stand..

  3. Best move Britain ever made. The EU think they are a nation and their members are provinces under their control. When it was the EEC and only dealt with goods flowing freely through the countries it was good. However it morphed and they started telling countries what the could and could not do and started dictate social policies. Britain should have gotten out 10 years ago.

  4. What’s funny is how the two main pro-Brexit proponents have relinquished any desire to lead the Brexit!

  5. The happiest day of my life was when I told Eastfink to take their lousy service/programs and shove it up their coaxial cable – since then, I’ve blanked out 99% of international news, especially American news. Yes, ignorance is bliss and I am blissful – plus I get to put $80 back in my pocket.

Brexit doesn’t faze me one bit. The world will keep on spinning with or without my input. Just let me know if they turn Citadel Hill into a giant pinata.

  6. The brexit vote just highlights what is wrong with politicians. The only reason the vote happened was because David Cameron wanted to get elected, so he promised a referendum even though he knew it was a bad idea to leave the EU. The Leave side pushed lies and misinformation to gain support. I’m sure the Stay side isn’t innocent of this either. The main politicians who pushed those lies have now decided their work is done, as CB points out, when really Britain needs strong leadership now more than ever.

I don’t really know what the consequences are of staying vs leaving in the long run, and whether they will be better off without the EU. But I’m starting to wonder what democracy really is. Is a referendum true democracy, where everyone gets a simple decision? This would require a properly informed public, which clearly wasn’t the case here with such a complex issue and so many lies flying around. Or is democracy something more along the lines of people voting for a representative to use sound judgment? Is that too elitist? I don’t really have the answers, just a lot of questions.
