On Saturday between the hours of 11:30am and 5:00pm, my apartment got broken into and a bunch of items were stolen, mostly computers and assorted cables. If anyone comes across any information about the break-in or the stolen items, please call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Our incident number is 10-71576.
The stolen items were:
-20 inch iMac (white plastic, 2006 model) and assorted cables, keyboard, mighty mouse
-20 inch iMac (silver aluminum, 2007 model) and assorted cables, keyboard, Microsoft mouse (right click doesn’t always work),
-an external hard drive (1TB, black, and looks like a plastic book), and
-Palm Pilot Tungsten T2 (silver)
The manufacturers don’t make or sell these items anymore, and especially the Palm Pilot is pretty ancient and rare to find (not valuable money wise, just rare). Any help is appreciated! I have no convenient internet access, so if I do not respond to your posts, please understand that I am away from keyboard and not by choice.
Oh wait, here is my bitch… just when I was starting to like this city, this happens. Whoever did this to us, you suck. I really wouldn’t mind if you went to hell right this moment.

Joke’s on them, OP… Those Macs won’t be working within the year, so…
look for them at your local crack dealer’s place soon enough. imacs, who the fuck would really want them, anyway, shitboxes with sound and video.
That really sucks.
Nothing on the planet as stupid as an asshole who doesn’t realise stealing from the poor working stiffs around you will never get you much…your better off figuring out how to rip off the Government or the Banks .
But seeing as they are #1 & #2 of the biggest criminal organizations in this (& most other countries) you gotta be careful & think things through.
Which proves my point about crooks, like the ones who stole from you, being S T U P I D .
It’s actually a good thing, now you can go buy a windows computer and not look like a stuck up asshole .
yeah, totally…
while it sucks they stole your hardware…
now you have a chance to buy some decent kit.
Would this really have been better than if they broke in, laid the iMacs down and pinched off a nice, steamy loaf right in the middle of the screen?, while it was on, no less to keep it nice and warm until you got back.
hey, don’t forget linux…
it’s not always just leopard or windows…
wait, is it even leopard? or panther…. can’t remember and too lazy to google.
I never bother keeping up with their “upgraded os’s”
I think the recent iteration of the Mac OS is called Tiger Shit X.
sending out some Mac love!!
L O V E
booooooo on apple and their dispensable electronics…
Ok, zZz, I’m curious. What’s the burr about Apple? Who cares why people choose a particular platform and OS if it works for them?
I don’t particularly care if people choose it… I care that the company’s platform is all about…
“make our products so that when something breaks in it or the battery dies (WHICH IS INNEVITABLE) they have to either 1. come to us to replace for an exorbitant amount more $$$ or just replace the whole fucking thing”, which is what people generally do.
fuck replacing a battery for 85 bucks when I can get a completely newer one for 150…
and so the old one’s junked.
I’d be curious to see how many of the millions of original ipods are still going… after only what… 5 years? not too many, me thinks.
If apple made even their battery decently replaceable it would be a step in the right direction.
So to sum up, I don’t care if you choose apple… I know a lot of people who swear by their iphones… I just don’t like them at all.
I even have an ipod shuffle… but didn’t pay a penny for it… which is about what it’s worth.
1 gig for 85 bucks.. and I’m forced to use the crappy itunes…. Eff that.
piece of crap.
as far as their computers go, they have been decent about the whole windows install on them… but really, you’re just paying through the nose to have the logo and a shiny, white case.
I was debating getting a mac mini to use as a little media center but for the prices they wanted for it in its proprietary, form-factor case meant no real upgrading the thing. I could find a few parts here and there (power supplies, DDR2 ram, hard drives), throw em in a case and spend on a decent mobo with hdmi and an ok chip and I’d have a comparable setup for a fraction of what they want. dual core with hdmi and 2-4 gigs of ram for ~400 bucks is a pretty good deal compared to 570 for the mini.
Plus, I could always put more in it later…
and in case you don’t believe me….

everything you need for a running media center for 402 bucks plus tax.
Personally, I’d splurge an extra 50 bucks to get triple the disk space too ( 1.5 Tb )

compared with the canadian mac mini which is actually more than I thought…
http://www.apple.com/ca/macmini/ STARTING @ $649 plus tax for
* 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (slightly better than my dual core chip)
* 2GB memory (same)
* 160GB hard drive1 (mine has 500 Gb)
* 8x double-layer SuperDrive (mine has none, though they are only 30 bucks)
* NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics (this doesn’t even have HDMI like mine above)
* Mac OS X Snow Leopard (ug, run ubuntu if you don’t want to pay for an OS)
my brain hurts. i own macs they work, i am sorry someone stole your stuff
Never mind that you really can’t upgrade Apple stuff, which is almost a necessity if you plan on holding onto any computer for longer than a couple of years. Even if you don’t build your own, any normal CPU is a better value.
Oh my fuck. Not this debate again. Jesus fucking christ.
It’s like arguing what’s better, a car or a truck? It depends what you’re going to do with it. Mac and Apple have MORE than proven themselves in the studio production environment but they don’t make great web servers. IBM’s are nothing but headaches in the studio. Each architecture has it’s virtues.
Apple is going to lose that capacity now that Adobe is not (supposedly) going to support Mac versions of CS5, over Apple’s refusing to accept Flash.
That’s why I don’t live in the city anymore. I can’t stand thieves. If I had the time, I’d search night and day for them and make them pay me back. I don’t have that kind of time. I’m now happily living in a neighborhood where no one gets robbed.
“Joke’s on them, OP… Those Macs won’t be working within the year, so…”
Ya, my macbook breaks all the time. ZERO times in like 5 fucking years. And no, I’m not stuck up for preferring macs. And yes, my ipod nano which is about as old still works for a few hours if I charge it, which is enough for me.
Insurance… Sounds like some new gear is in order anyway…
Even if they had insurance, the deductible is probably higher than what the items were worth money wise. But think about this: most people have their digital photos on their computer, possibly backed up on their external hard drive. Both get stolen, that’s tons of memories lost. And that’s just photos, think about what else they might have had on their computers. Possibly tons of music paid for on itunes? I think this is a pretty valid bitch.
Also, I try not to judge on the apple/pc thing, I love my iphone but I’m definitely not ready to give up my pc.
Kijiji? Good luck getting your stuff back. A lot of “hot” stuff ends up on Kijiji and you can be sure the buyer doesn’t give a damn where it came from as long as it’s at a good price. I suggest you get a security system installed in your place….well worth the money.
I did look on Kijiji yesterday and I did see “two Imacs for sale” but it was from somone in Windsor Junction or whatever, but the info was really detailed and didn’t really fit your info at all. Good luck :(!
a big dog named karma might help
Hi all, thanks for all the comments, and the suggestion to get a PC. Since we are covered by home insurance (and the deductive is $1000 and that’s far less than the damage), we are hoping we can get some of the stuff “back”. We will have to get “equivalent” items, so we will be getting iMac’s again if the insurance company agrees to help us out. The insurance person is visiting us this afternoon…wish us luck!
I still have the backup HD for my computer, so hopefully I can restore all my files including photos and iTunes downloads (yay for Time Machine!). However, my husband’s backup HD was stolen, so he lost several years worth of work like applications he programmed and whatnot. I would say that’s the biggest damage…and you can’t put a price tag on that kind of stuff. We feel so violated, and that’s another damage that was done money won’t fix.
I used to use PC until they came up with Vista and installed it on every new PC that was being sold. Then I switched to iMac. I think each (PC/Mac) has its own merits and demerits. Some like PC, others swear by Mac. I am not very computer literate, so “ready for use right out of the box” iMac works just fine for me. Mine broke a few times, but it was all under warranty and they were going to give me a new one if it had another major breakdown…so it is all good. Hopefully whoever stole it is having hard time booting it up. :p
Anyway, thanks again and please call the Crime Stoppers if you ever hear/see anything.
Thanks mel for checking Kijiji for us! I also scanned it today and found nothing suspicious. Yes paingirl, the next pet we will be getting I am naming it Karma. lol
well geez, now that i know it’s you i feel badder (not a real word)
NTH, g’luck!
I have an Ibook G4 and It’s been abused badly over the past few years since I bought it. It just NOW started giving me problems with the fan.. they last longer than a lot of other comps.
