I received my first speeding ticket a few months ago… I deserved it. I accept it, lesson learned… Racing twenty five km over the speed limit, so as not to be late for a luncheon, cost me over $200.00 dollars. What I DON”T get is seeing the same HFX police department who issued me the ticket, speeding ALL the damn time! I’m not talking about when their sirens are blaring, lights flashing, on their way to a legitimate emergency….just whenever they feel that traffic is moving a little too slow for them!

Today was the last fucking straw… To the Hfx police cruiser who was tailgating my ass for 10 km on my way to Bayers Lake today (now THAT’S safe), finally passing me when I slowed down to meet the limits designated by the ” fines will be doubled in construction zones”… Fuck you and your hypocritical double standards. Glad you can get away with going over the speed limits. Hope you weren’t late for your lunch date.—Bella

  1. hmmm, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a cop speed without lights a blaring.
really, why would they if there were no emergency?
what would they be speeding to exactly?

I dunno, I don’t see cops all that often anyways, seems they like to stick to main roads quite a bit… and who wants to take those? takes for friggin ever to get anywhere on em.

  2. Cops don’t have to adhere to speed limits (sirens or not) because of the plates they have on their vehicle I believe. Afaik, the “restricted” plate allowed the holder to basically treat the road as their own personal auto bahn.

As well, I’m pretty sure they have training on how to drive at faster speeds that the general population may not have. Further, they may be trying to get somewhere but it isn’t enough of an emergency to go THAT fast as to require sirens. You have to be going pretty fast to require a siren (which is also used to tell people to get the fuck out of the way).

    Just a thought.

  3. Cops are bound by the same rules and laws of the road as citizens. A judge stated that a few years back when a female HRPD officer abused her badge and was running reds and not signaling. She was charged and fined I believe.

  4. friend, you actually answered your own question, because they are cops, and can do damn near anything they fucking want to.

  5. Pretty Kitty – “restricted” plates do not give any speeding rights to the driver in control of said plated vehicle(s). If that was the case then most of HRM’s Public Works and the HRSB maintenance fleet would have a free for all when it comes to speed limits as they also have the restricted plates.

  6. Cops can speed if they have to go to a call unnoticed. You can’t catch the bad guys if they know you’re coming, right?

The point is, you don’t know, so don’t get all bent out of shape. If you feel that they were speeding, call them on it. It’ll be a waste of time, but you could say that you did something, instead of whining about it to anyone who will listen. I hope you get nailed with a speeding ticket again, just to complicate matters.

  7. the tailgating may have been part of the issue too… that’s a pain in the ass, doesn’t matter if you’re a cop or not – back off or speed by.

  8. I’ve never been pulled over myself, but I do believe that some cops intentionally tailgate certain drivers to intimidate them into speeding, and then fining them. It happened to a friend of mine once. She was really pissed off (for those who are likely going to dismiss this and assume I’m biased, I will say that this girl is probably one of the most innocent-seeming girls I’ve ever known, and doesn’t seem to have a malicious/deviant bone in her body). She was trying to go home one night, and the cop tailgated her for a good 5-10 minutes, until eventually she was speeding because she was getting so intimidated. Then when the cop approached her, he treated her like some degenerate, literally sniffing around (to see if she was high/drunk) and all this garbage.

And, for the record, I don’t believe all cops like doing this, nor do I think all cops are assholes. I think like 95% of the time, I side with them. Haha

  9. I’ve never been pulled over either.
and the time I crashed into a pole the cops didn’t even bother looking around my car…
the crash smashed my scorpion tank open and he was loose.
    That’s how I roll.

  10. jdp21 – she didn’t need to increase her speed whatsoever to accomodate someone riding her bumper. She should have kept driving the posted limit (or reasonably close to it) and let him enjoy the view. Or she could have signaled right, pulled off the road a bit and let him pass. But to blame the cop for her driving over the speed limit, too far fetched for me.

  11. It doesn’t just end at the ticket. Wait until your insurance does a routine driving record check. I got a ticket and also a 25% penalty on my insurance for getting the speeding ticket in the first place. Was I ever pissed. The ticket cost me $1,500 more than it was for ($500 a year penalty for 3 years).

  12. – 99% of speeding tickets are to generate city revenue
    – posted speed limits in this province are an absolute joke
    – it’s a fact that people with borderline personality disorders who lack basic decision making skills are drawn to careers in enforcement (police, parole officers, military personel, etc)
    – everyone of you would piss and moan too if you got a ticket so don’t be so self righteous with the “suck it up” and “i hope you get another ticket” .. thanks for contributing nothing.

Im amazed at how many people don’t get the concept a bitch forum…. its.for.bitching.about.shit., you morons.

  13. How many Kindereggs did you have to buy before you got your Sociology degree F7? I usually only get Smurfs or race cars. Love to know where you heard about the link between BPD and the military/law enforcement. Lemme guess, from the same coven of feminazis who declared that there was a “proven” rise in domestic violence on Super Bowl Sunday. Here’s a “fact” for you; silly twats who piss and moan about “self-righteousness” in others are usually the first who need to shut their piss-flaps and look in the mirror.

  14. Next time someone tailgates you OP, cop or not, slow down another 10km/h and keep that pace for about 5 min. Make them go even slower for a while and then when you increase back up to the limit, maybe they will BACK OFF!

  15. cops have to adhere to the rules of the road. as law enforcement they have to occasionally get to some place in speedy fashion. as soon as this happens a cop is expected to activate his lights and sirens. this is precisely why they have them, to warn people. they can not “stealthily” speed around the roads without them on. thats nonsense.

it really enrages me when people say (paraphrasing) “if you cant do the time, dont do the crime”. such ridiculousness amazes me. police routinely set up in areas which are to their advantage. ie speed limit change zones

one can just look to last year when they changed the inspection rules to see how cops take advantage as many people tried to hang on just one month to get an extra year out of their inspection. they set up unprecedented spot checks just to grab some cash from one of the poorest groups of citizens in the country. do any of you really think that a car would have been any less safe a a month later? tax collectors is basically all our police force serve as.

  16. john, police normally will activate emergency equipment, they will turn such equipment off when approaching a crime in progress. Of course they could leave them on and give the perps a chance to escape. They can (along with fire and ambulance) exceed the speed limit. Here is the section of the MVA that pertains to this.

Exemption of police or emergency vehicle
109 (1) The speed limitations as set forth in this Act shall not apply to vehicles when operated with due regard to safety under the direction of the police in the chase or apprehension of violators of the law or of persons charged with or suspected of any such violation, nor to fire departments or fire patrol vehicles when travelling in response to a fire alarm, nor to public or private ambulances when travelling in emergencies and the drivers thereof sound audible signal by bell, siren or exhaust whistle.

    (2) This Section shall not relieve the driver of any such vehicle from the duty to drive with due regard for the safety of all persons using the highway, nor shall it protect the driver of any such vehicle from the consequences of a reckless disregard of the safety of others. R.S., c. 293, s. 109; revision corrected.

  17. unless i cannot read, it states that whilst they are pursuing criminals or suspected criminals, “the drivers thereof sound audible signal by bell, siren or exhaust whistle”?

  18. Again and let the perp get away, right. Remember there is more to things than what is stated in the Act. There is something called case law. Case law is not necessarily put in the Act.

  19. BroTim, I get your point about forewarning any lawbreakers by blaring sirens. however the flipside of that coin is running down pedestrians or smashing into motorists who are unaware of the approaching police vehicle. Please do not reply this is something that does not happen, because it has, and it will.

the boys and girls in blue need remember that the are the law, not above it. as many ive witnessed/encountered seem to believe.
