Ok new neighbours, I know you are new to the area. In fact you are new to the country. You may not know that in Halifax we have animal control bylaws.

Why the fuck to you let your cat out at midnight regardless of the weather? I can’t believe how many times I’ve seen you let your cat out for the NIGHT in freezing temperatures and freezing rain, etc.,. This is not cool. If I didn’t have two cats already I’d take your cat in.

It’s a nice cat. Very pleasant. Beautiful even, but it is either going to get 1) hit by a car 2) killed by a raccoon or feral cat or 3) succumb to the elements when you carelessly let it out.

Losers…

PS I’m also sick of waking up to find cat paw prints all over my car…..—Control your pussycat

  1. The animal control bylaw pertains to dogs not cats. To address unwanted cat activity there is a nuisance bylaw that prevents cat owners from letting their cats roam free and cause damage.

  2. Chances are this is an outdoor cat, meaning that it’s used to being out for the night and can take care of itself. If it gets hit by a car or killed by a raccoon, that’s not the owners fault. People aren’t going to stop letting their cats go outside just because they MIGHT get hit by a car or killed by another animal, that’s stupid.

And for the love of god it’s April, WHAT freezing temperatures? And cats are clean, they don’t trek mud all over the place, so what exactly is covering your car (in April) that the cat is leaving prints in? Dirt? Wash your car and the cat wont leave the prints. Or do what normal people do and STOP CARING. As far as annoyances with neighbors’ pets go, cat paw prints on the car doesn’t even register. Mind your own business, these people aren’t doing anything wrong.

  3. I’m sick of people who say ‘cats are clean’. If they go outdoors, then they walk on the same germ-ridden sidewalks we humans and dogs do. Do they remove their paws before jumping up on the kitchen counter or the pillow on your bed? Nope! And I’ve yet to see a cat trained to wipe its paws on a porch mat after coming in from outside.
And funny the OP mentions that the owners of this cat she’s complaining about are new to Halifax- who cares? As if there aren’t enough native Haligonians to set the example of improperly trained or controlled cats!

  4. Cats will outlive us all.

They think about killing you all day. Letting them out at night helps stop them from doing it.

  5. there can be worse things than paw prints on a car.
I had spiders all up in my old car…
used to live in the woods and they seemed to like all the nooks and crannies…
especially every mating season in spring when it tripled…

every day after work or school, I got to see their lovely web-building from my antenna, across the windshield… all over the fucking place.
That…. that was a pain in the ass.

  6. My sister has a cat that no longer has a nose because she let it out in bad weather. You read it right.. no NOSE. It has a hole in its face where its nose used to be. I hate people who do this to cats.

  7. HAHA O.K I’m tired, but I was totally reading nose as NOOSE

    I was just like WTF?!?!

then I re read it and was ok.

  8. HAHA O.K I’m tired, but I was totally reading NOOSE as MOOSE

    I was just like WTF?!?!

then I re read it and was ok.

  9. Not that I am saying it is right to leave a cat out all night in the cold but……They can take it.

  10. “My sister has a cat that no longer has a nose because she let it out in bad weather.”

If this is actually true, Pearlstardust, either your sister or her cat, or both, are mentally deficient. Because a) any normal cat can survive outdoors in fairly extreme temperatures and b) if the cat somehow lacks the ability to take care of itself in cold weather, why the fuck would you let it out in temperatures cold enough that its extremities could freeze?

  11. IF the cat is in peril of dying from cold.etc. Call the Metro SPCA cruelty line. It’s in the phone book. IT”S THEIR JOB to educate the UN-educated and in some foreign countries cats and dogs are on the same level as dirt…they just don’t matter,

  12. There’s no need for any house cat to go outside at all. Ever. It’s a huge myth that cats need to go outside. I let two of my cats out in the past and both got hit by cars. That was enough to declare that any cat I’ll ever have will be indoor kitties, no matter HOW much they whine to get out. Thankfully, one of my cats is afraid to go outside and the other has no interest.

Keeping your cats inside keeps them healthier and cleaner and saves a ton of money in vet bills (especially since they don’t require certain needles). Plus they don’t get fleas. Sure you do have to have a litterbox for them, but when it comes down to it, scooping it once every second day takes maybe 5 mi nutes, and it takes me maybe 10-15 minutes to clean the box out every week, and as long as you do scoop it and clean it regularly, it won’t smell.

  13. PK, this is the 3rd time I’ve heard you mention the idea that cats don’t need to go outside. And as I mentioned before, saying cats don’t need to go outside is like saying dolphins don’t need to live in the ocean. Sure they might have a pretty nice life in Seaworld, but no one really thinks dolphins are better off penned up in a small space forever. While I don’t really care if you want to keep your cats as indoor cats, many people do and they do live fine that way, it’s not a myth that they need to go outside, it’s a way of not keeping them in a cage for their entire lives, because cats are naturally meant to see daylight, and fresh air, just like most other living creatures. Sure it’s much more convenient for us to keep them inside, and possibly less chance of them getting hurt, but cats aren’t concerned with those things, humans are.

  14. scoobydoo, anyone who has owned a cat as well as a dog knows that dogs will roll in anything that smells, shit and mud and garbage. You have to give your dog frequent and regular baths to keep it clean and healthy. Cats don’t get as dirty as dogs do, they don’t trek mud throughout the house, you don’t have to bath them at all if they are short haired, you don’t even have to brush them unless they are long haired, you don’t need to train them to wipe their paws, they keep themselves clean. No one is saying that cats are completely sterile of germs… you sound like a germaphobe.

  15. As for the indoor vs outdoor cat thing…

It’s always better for an animal to be able to go outside once in a while. But as long as the indoor cats are indoor cats from birth it’s not as bad. In certain areas keeping cats indoors is smarter, high traffic areas especially. Letting a cat outside in the middle of a city is stupid, there should be lots of bushes and trees around.

If you don’t let your cat out when it’s young and then suddenly start letting it out when it’s older it is going to die. If you de-claw your cat and let it out it is going to die. If you buy a ridiculous collar with bells on it and let it outside it is going to die. I never put collars on my outdoor cats, they can get snagged on branches and die of starvation, exposure, or end up as a meal.

  16. please peoples, do not declaw your cats they will bite you…plus it’s stupid and cruel
