If you’re one of those people that “doesn’t do direct deposit” and insists on having a paper pay cheque, your bitch is invalid. Hope that’s not the case.

Some employers don’t do direct deposit.
When I was working for a temp agency, they didn’t do direct deposit. And if you’re casual or term with the feds, they won’t pay you through direct deposit, either. Cheque is it.

OP, check with the labour board or a lawyer. IIRC, something like this could qualify as a breech of employment contract by your employer. Which might mean that you have the option of quitting while demanding 2 weeks notice and severance pay.
