Tip to the public: Don’t bother wasting your time trying to help Halifax Regional Police by reporting a crime. Today I called HRP to report a dangerous/wreckless driver only to be treated like I was the criminal. Great way to make a law-abiding citizen feel like they just wasted HRP’s time by trying to help and make our city a safer place. From now on, I don’t care what I witness…I am NOT calling the police. —Dohh…Nuts!

What did they say to make it seem like you were the criminal?
I’ve only dealt with the police a few times, but I found them to be respectable and helpful…
you werent calling on your cell phone while driving were you? haha :p
DON’T SWEAT IT. when you spit on the sidewalk next time, they will be right fucking there. you want fast results, tell them person in car had a gun next time.
Nina Boot, I think you hit the nail right on the head. OP if you were calling on your cellphone while driving, then you deserved the treatment you got.
hmmm ive reported many dangerous/careless drivers and always been dealt with by the report taker in a very professional and courteous manner. Not only that, because of their questions and handling, made it easier on the report and subsequent ticket/visit by the police. Ive happily spent an afternoon in traffic court as the witness as well. So contrary to the OP, DO report the drivers who are dangerous. it serves the public, and who knows, may save a life one day.
I once called animal control after seeing about 30 deer on the highway… a FAST highway within city limits. They told me unless one of the deer were dead on the road they would do nothing. So it’s quite all right to see people in danger and do nothing until one of us is dead on the road and THEN you’re not an asshole for “complaining”
Gotta wonder… if people actually pursued careers they cared deeply about as opposed to doing the daily grind if Canada could be an even better place to live.
What does Animal Control have to do with HRP. You called the wrong place anyway. Deer and wild animals come under the purview of the province, The Department of Natural Resources.
I wasn’t on my cell phone in my car. I called once I got home.
You are allowed to call 911 on your cell while driving if it’s an emergency…which is why I assume one would call 911!
kay, where did you see those deer at, i’m looking for a new place to hunt this year. 30 wow, that is an awful in one area.
Yes, melectric, but reporting a dangerous driver is not necessarily an emergency.
Bro Tim, if the person answering the phone at animal control had any passion for their “career” and calling HRP is the right thing to do then that person would have taken responsibility to do something meaningful rather than the “daily grind” of finding reasons to do as little as possible. Besides, who thinks to call the cops on deer?
LS, asks where are these tasty deer? Within city limits is where.
I think this is a valid bitch. We need to have confidence public support is required and welcome as an important part of maintaining order. Really, such a complaint is demanding the system be effective and it failed.
im guessing the police were too busy with other important issues such as moving violations and speed trap setups to bother with any real problems. one only has to look to the horrendous rate at which the local law enforcement solves major crimes to see where the real priorities lie. i know a law is a law, but jesus people…cant we see our cops doing other things besides handing out little green violation notifications???
