To assholes who underline shit in library books: FUCK YOU! What the fuck? Are you so fucking dense to keep a basic story straight you have to deface a literature classic? Shit, if James Joyce wanted lines emphasized he would have underlined them himself! It’s not like its a fucking bio textbook where some shit is important and other shit isn’t. This is James fucking Joyce; it’s all part of it. Show some fucking consideration and don’t fucking mark library books! —Angry Reader

  1. I’m with you, OP. I hate underliners, highlighters, margin writers, and all other types of library book defacers with a passion. You wanna dog-ear all the pages and run pink highlighter through it, buy it your damn self, jerkfaces.

  2. I couldn’t ever buy used books while in university because of this. I never write in my books, or fold the corners, if I want to take notes, I will write things in another notebook. Books already have all the words they need in them when you buy them.

  3. PAS: I get what you’re sayin’ — I scour the used books and won’t buy used until I can find a completely clean copy. It was impossible to do at Acadia though, by the end of my time there because they put the books in the store room and you had to go to a counter and request someone to get the book for you. I’d ask for used and they’d bring me the crappiest looking book. I remember once I sent them back three times because I refused to buy a book that looked like crap!

And once I get the book, I highlight it and write in the margins:P I just recently started doing this again after I couldn’t bring myself to do it (aside from a tick beside passages I needed to outline) for a while. However, these were only MY books…I’d never do that to a library book (I’ve ticked things off or underlined with pencil very faintly, but I always erase before I bring it back).

I found a text book for one of my classes this term at the library and half the book is highlighted and written in. It’s annoying, but hay, I saved myself $100+ so I guess I can deal with it.

Still. Use posts it flags and erase your shit when you’re done, people!

  4. Library book defacers are the worst! My eraser is always handy when I discover one underlined in pencil so I can restore it for the next readers.

  5. here we go with the fucking italics again, who is doing this shit? is it andy trying to get revenge on us, for being so off the wall, or maybe the great speghetti monste letting us know it is pissed at us.either way, it looks dumb.back to point, people underline shit, simply because they think everyone should share their views on something. sort of like being a dickhead and everyone knowing it,ceprin’ them.

  6. this has been happening on/off for a while sucks. it has stopped for me but i have a mac^^. not that there is anything wrong with that. my ma writes reviews in pencil on books she loans me but they’re pour les famille not public consumption

  7. Yup just gotta love amatuer editors. So what if there is a typo. i have a secret for you. Those who are reading the book can READ and can easily figure out the error. We do not need your help.

  8. Ha! I saw the weird font today when I was using a PC, but now that I’m back on my mac: no weird font 🙂

Wonder if the new webeditor is using a mac?

  9. Ironically, shortly after reading this post I came across a page in a library book I’m reading (Battle Royale) and a sentence was underlined o.O
