It is NOT OK for you to leave your pets unattended in your cars in summer weather. Not for five minutes or five seconds. If I see ANYONE doing this, I’m taking your plate numbers and I am reporting you to the Humane Society, or whatever it is that I can do to teach your dumb ass a lesson or at LEAST get that animal out of that situation. Or to prevent other animals from getting that done to them. I don’t care if it was only quick, you didn’t think it was that bad or if they end up being OK. IT IS NOT OK! it’s not okay for any helpless lifeform, and especially the bigger breeds of dogs. they suffer heatstroke quickly and go into shock. there’s not much you can do at that point but loads of ice and water and try to cool the core temperature off

I’m no bleedy heart, but leaving dogs in the car on a warm day makes me pretty angry. Dog just loves you, and you scramble his brain like an egg.

It’s too bad you can’t lock the owners of these animals in a car in 30 degree heat and watch how fast they beg for relief. Stupid fucking douchebags, too selfish for words. Who “stops by the mall”, leaves a dog in the car and goes shopping?
FYI – HRP asked that you call them if you see a pet inside a car, they will come to it immediately and assess and/or rescue.. better to err on the side of caution. You CAN call 911.
+1 on the cops(fire department too). They can get there faster and can smash windows with aplomb.

I hate seeing dogs tied up outside of places too. Like, go grocery shopping AND THEN take the dog for a walk you fools. You really trust the masses not to do shit to your dog?

Ok seriously everyone? I treat my dog like royalty.. she’s spoiled, loved, pet and cuddles everyday. We go for off leash runs and have puppy dates.
AND I leave her in the car for 5 min while I run into a store. Usually she just came from a swim, windows down and she is FINE.
I don’t agree with leaving them in a hot car for more then that but COME ON.. the dog is fine for 5 minuets while you grab some milk and bread.
All these people complaining probably never walk their dogs, lock them in back yards and ignore them.
Get a friend and don’t bother calling the cops on me. I have WAY too many people from the dog park who can vouch for how well my pouch is taken care of.
I think, toygrrrl, the posters are talking about those who lock their dogs in the car on a hot day while shopping at the mall for an hour or two. Some people have the common sense that God gave geese and don’t consider that effect of intense heat on an animal that can’t sweat. That’s why you have to be vigilant when you see that situation.
I leave the window down, and occasionally when I return, my dog is chewing on a piece of someone’s sleeve. ROTFLMAO!

troodon formosus – I agree.. leaving a dog while you shop is un excusable. Everyone in this post, however, seems to think your a monster for grabbing a loaf of bread or stopping at a convenience store to grab a drink. That’s ridiculous.
Know what wierdos? Some of us who LOVE our dogs and go on hikes with them stop at the store on the way to the trail to grab munchies and water on the go. Guess what else.. there’s NOTHING wrong with that!

There is limits to everything, no dog should ever be in a hot car for longer then a few minuets I agree with that, but stop being mental and realize the dog isn’t in danger while I grab my hiking goodies at the gas station.

Meh, I wouldn’t leave a child or expensive electronic in a car or outside of a store for any amount of time, and I value animals more than those two things. I just wouldn’t. If you feel you’re a great owner then why do you care what internet people think? Obviously those dog park people know what they’re talking about…
