I was walking ahead of everyone while crossing the street at the light. Halfway through, I noticed a car waiting for us to complete the walk. I waved him through with a smile.
You then yelled at me and told me that other people were walking behind me (AKA you alone) and to be more sensitive for others.
Slow the fuck down, lady. Do you really have NO time to be courteous to other people?
I knew the guy in that car. He was a senior citizen driving his wife to her operation consolation. They already have to wait two damn hours in the waiting room. Least I can do is help them wait less in Monday rush hour traffic.

Well, if the lady wants to get mad at anyone it should be the old guy in the car. Just because some “leader of the crosswalkers” gives him a smile and a wave doesn’t mean he should go ahead and disregard the rules of the road.
I fucking hate it when I stop for someone, only for them to give me a “friendly wave and smile” to go first. What the fuck did I stop for? Just get your ass to the other side of the street already.

Um, waving people through a cross walk while people are crossing/waiting to cross isn’t conscientious — it’s dangerous and stupid.

The rules of the road are meant to be followed, this helps avoid the majority of accidents. When you wave someone through an intersection like that, you are not following the rules. You’re not a crossing guard, so although you were being courteous, you do not have the authority to control and direct traffic.

Grrrr…Like the drivers ahead of you who stop so that someone can pull in front (who usually make a left turn, messing up the timed traffic flow for everyone.) I figure any good karma they get by this misguided ‘good’ deed is totally negated by the curses and ill wishes of the drivers behind them.

I agree. Traffic rules are in place for safety and legal reasons but also for the orderly flow of traffic. They are in place so motorists and peds alike will know who is supposed to do what and when. (At least, it’s supposed to). While your heart may have been in the right place, OB, thinking that you are doing this motorist a favour, you’re actually just gumming up the works. You should have just crossed the street and been done with it. Let gramps worry about getting through the intersection after it’s clear of peds.

I saw the same thing happen twice today, at the corner of Summer and Bell. First time, a ped stopped and waved through a guy waiting to make a right hand turn. Fucked up the whole intersection of traffic, peds and the cars trying to turn left. A while later (and actually quite different), a lady stopped to let a Cab make a left turn in front of her….except she had to, or the bastard would have run her down.
I got to watch a lot of traffic today, the worst were the cyclists, a good 60 to 70% were doing everything from blowing through red lights, to running peds of the sidewalk. Close second are the Taxis, 3-point turn in the middle of the street, blocking 2 lanes of traffic to make a left hand turn, and fuck the peds. Then comes (in order) BMW, Audi, and Mercedes. Lolz, one Beemer had “tuner” ehaust, what a joke.
