Decent jobs in Nova Scotia are as scarce as hen’s teeth. Everything pays minimum wage! From burger joints, to call centres, to office work. I cannot pay my bills and rent on minimum wage. That’s why I invested several years and thousands of dollars on my secondary education. These job ads I see online are really fucking annoying. These cheap ass employers refused to pay anything more than a dollar over the minimum. You may get $12/hr. if you’re lucky, but they have these long laundry lists of qualifications they expect of a potential employee. You must have this degree, that degree, vehicle required, knowledge of bookkeeping. Know this software and that program. Yet you pay fucking peanuts! How dare you?! These degrees to which you seek weren’t free. We owe up to our eyeballs in student loan debts and the price of living is increasing every day. Have you seen the price of food lately? 5 dollars for a cauliflower! Let alone, heating, power, internet, phone, rental prices. This is ridiculous! No wonder there are so many homeless people who just give up and turn to the bottle and drink themselves into oblivion. You just can’t win. Then you take one of these shitty jobs and the workers are all so miserable, they treat you like shit. The working conditions are always hostile. Then you leave when you find another job that pays a whole dollar more an hour, and the employer wonders why they have such a high employee turnover rate. Job searching is so annoying. And don’t even get me started on these temp agency con artists. They waste hours of your day with their interview, typing tests and spelling tests, but then they don’t call you for any fucking assignments! You’ll check in with them weekly and they claim to have nothing, but meanwhile you see several ads they have posted on job boards. WTF? They take like 50% of your income anyway!! And there are so many of these agencies out there now. They’re all crooks. You’ll get work with them if you agree to 10.70/hr. They want the biggest piece of your pie for doing fuck all, All the employers love using these agencies since their turnover is so high and they get tired of dealing with new hires themselves. Well, here’s a novel thought: Why don’t you pay your fucking workers and treat them right and you won’t have that problem to begin with. Finally, another thing that really pisses me off is these idiots who post their own ads looking for a job under the job category and not under the “jobs wanted” category. We are all looking for jobs, we don’t need to sift thru your bullshit misspelled ad FFS. No employer on earth has ever answered them. They want to see a professional cover letter and resume, not some stupid one-liner from your illiterate ass. I literally read this on kijiji today… “Looking for a cash job witch pays 12 dollars an hour”… Witch? Seriously? Use spell check you dumb fucks and post in the right category. Could you not waste people’s time with this nonsense? —Fuck off with that shit!

Speaking of dumb fucks and spell check ….. secondary education in Canada is high school. Post-secondary education refers to diploma / degree granting institutions. – So, fuck off with that shit!
My goodness gracious. This bitch is an alphabet soup of bitterness and bile if I’ve ever read one! A negative mindset will never accomplish anything, especially in obtaining a well-paying job. Employers can smell bad attitude a kilometre away!

Anyone who pays their employees less than $18-20/h is a piece of shit employer. Who gives a flying fuck about your attitude at $10.70/h, they’re lucky anyone even shows the fuck up.
Times are tough, I really feel for you person of the post! Things are just going to get worse, even if the economy picks up in the short term. Automation and technology is slowly shaving off jobs everywhere. Tellers, cashiers, book-keepers, teachers, salespeople, toll booth operators, and even order takers at fast food stands are all being squeezed into extinction!! Meanwhile, our better jobs are farmed out to Mexico, India, China, and the like, on an increasing rate. First-world countries can’t compete with second-world rates of pay. Without a really good education in a field where there is a growing demand……your fucked! If you aren’t fucked yet…..wait for it……you will be soon!
Should do your research before putting yourself in dept. If you want to stay here and waste that money on a course that can only get you a job out west then its your own fault for not doing the research on the choise of study.

I actually work in a contact center in Halifax (for a bank) that pays me $17.25 an hour, part time only ! The opportunities are out there, just keep looking ! Yes, there are several jobs that underpay employees, but sometimes you take what you can get in this economy. The only requirements I have are my GED and several years of customer service experience. I don’t yet have a degree of any kind and I was still able to find a good paying job for my lifestyle. The opportunities are out there !! 🙂
