I longboard and bus around Halifax to get to Dal and work. I don’t appreciate the weird looks or rude comments from other girls who think it’s not classy or “only for guys”. Nor do I appreciate dirty looks from people when I bring my board on the bus; it really doesn’t take up any extra space, and certainly less than your fat asses.
I’m very careful and courteous with pedestrians and cars, but if I skate on the road, I get run over. If I skate on the sidewalk, I get yelled at by passing cops.
I’m just trying to get around the city in an environmentally friendly and physically active way, so stop treating me like a punk. —Skatebording is Not a Crime

How many times have you actually been “run over” on the road? Probably none.
Likewise, I’ve never heard of passing cops yelling at people. If they have an issue they would normally stop and talk to you right?
I think you are full of shit and no one cares that you longboard.
I care
Hate to burst your bubble sweetie but you aren’t an eco-hero, you aren’t striking a blow against car culture and you aren’t saving the planet; you’re a rolling organ donor.
This city just reacts really poorly to anything outside of their narrow-minded idea of “the norm” OP. You’ll get used to it.
me too, be careful. recently, a fellow in toronto was killed while riding his longboard
I’m sure this guy felt the same way…

TJ, that’s exactly the reason I’ve reduced my visits back “home” to Halifax. Now, it’s just a quick turn-around to check in with the old girl, Mum, every year or two. I just got fed up with the Halifax pickle-up-the-bummery. Yes, people, there is a world beyond ‘Metro’. It’s a big shiny world with scary things called different experiences and opportunities!
and you care about other girl’s snide remarks why?
aren’t boarders supposed to be rebels anyways?
anyhoo… hope you keep on keepin’ on.
gotta have skill and big brass ones to ride a skateboard on these hills—they shouldn’t be allowed on sidewalks though, any more than bikes are.
hahaha *pickle-up-the-bummery* i’m gonna use that
WHO FUCKING CARE ABOUT YOU ASSHOLES ANYWAY?
I guess I won’t be lugeing to work on icy winter days anymore. >: (

Why do you give a shit who looks at you? My main concern is people getting in my path! LOOK OUT MOTHERFUCKAS, 200 lb bitch on rollerblades comin’ through!
Pbbbbfffffttttt, apparently your longboard isn’t ironic enough.
Until skateboarders get licenses, pay insurance and observe the rules of the road they can go fuck them skates. Er, selves.
Keep fighting the good fight OP. The roads are dangerous for boarders and peddlers as drivers seem to be more careless and more distracted than ever. I say good on you for trying though, striking out for both women and the environment.
@Biscuit Bicyclists don’t have to have a License or pay insurance and quite a few don’t obey the rules of the road either.
Halifax….Dogtown she ain’t.
I LOVE it when I see girls with ‘boards! I stare at you ladies because I WANT TO RIDE ‘BOARDS, TOO, BUT I AM THE BIGGEST FUCKING KLUTZ EVER. Stay ridin’! You inspire me!
I agree with OP in that tons of chicks will tell you “thats for guys” whether its skateboarding, playing baseball, Magic cards, surfing, basically anything that isn’t 100% girlish. And these chicks are mad a MEN for setting back the women’s movement?!
