I don’t particularly believe in ‘negative energy’ or a dark aura or whatever, but I know that when you’re constantly down, you drag the world down with you.

I have tried relentlessly to cheer you up- not in an annoying sunshine pusher sort of way- but as a friend who has been in dark places, understands the difficulty, and who will always provide you with sound advice.

Why you chose to ignore this advice puzzles me. I know, sometimes, we all like to be in a dark place. Admit it, sometimes we all like to be foul for a few hours, or a whole day. But when this goes on for weeks…

I want you to help yourself, because I’m selfish.

I like being your friend, but your constant negativity and self directed insults are breaking me.

An ex-smoker who befriends a chain-smoker is not a healthy relationship.

You don’t realize this; I have never told you any details of my life- you’ve never asked once! I have extreme issues of my own and have tried so hard not to let my negativity beam through because I know how much it effects people around me. I know how it affects me.

Please Please Please take some time out and examine your heart. Metaphorically.

—At this point, I feel justified in my selfishness- I matter too.

  1. leave us to our dark places. we have no use for the light. it hurts us when the sun is out and shining. that’s the curse of being who we are. but we will be around longer than you normal people, as long as we don’t drain you all. we only need a small bit of your life force to keep us going nightly, and leave the majority of it for you. our mark is on the few chosen ones, and we drink from them only when needed. i go now, back into the carkness that is my only true friend.

  2. Lifer, that is the best Stephanie Meyer parody I’ve read all night. Please don’t tell me that you write fanfic for Twisexuals when you aren’t making us larf. Although, its probably a great way to meet girls.

  3. You you understand OP, then you may also understand that the person you’re talking about is displaying some symptoms of Clinical Depression. It’s not as easy as you may think, your friend may not be able to just snap out of it. They need to get therapy, or control it with medication. It’s just not something you can turn around on your own usually.

  4. no ivan, i do not. but i have been a vampire way back when it wasn’t cool to bite necks, just give a khickie and shit days. but i did write quite a few stories years gone by for omni, and a few other bellyup mags. snafu being one, and of course, let’s not forget that old favorite. the weekly world news. by the way, bigfoot jr. did get back with his parents and the chick got knocked up by him 5 years later. too bad that story never made it to deadline, before they shut down. i’ve also written a short called”the asteroid”, it was decent, but not gold worthy either. but what the hell, maybe i can get some gold here, poontang wise, that is.

  5. omni was an awesome magazine…the only stuff i keep are colours (from the beginning til about 5 yrs ago) and i have some freak brothers comics…the weekly world was great for camping weekends

  6. Tricky situation! Hmm… well, first of all, if your friend’s a hot female, tell her to come to me. I’ll cheer her up, if you know what I mean (what’s the matter with you, LIFE SUCKS? This would have been a perfect opportunity!).

You should probably confront this friend of yours about how they are draining you and making you feel. Let them know you want to help them, etc., but that they need to understand their negativity is bringing everyone else down and driving more people away from them and in the end will make them feel even worse. In other words, give some “tough love.” It’s gotta be tough and gotta be love, though.

Whenever I’m down, I make myself sing Monty Python’s “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life” in my head. It usually cheers me up.

“Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you’re chewing on life’s gristle
    Don’t grumble, give a whistle
And this’ll help things turn out for the best…

And…always look on the bright side of life…
Always look on the light side of life…

    If life seems jolly rotten
    There’s something you’ve forgotten
And that’s to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you’re feeling in the dumps
    Don’t be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle – that’s the thing.

And…always look on the bright side of life…
Always look on the light side of life…”

  7. at least you don’t have the worries of skin cancer like those leathery, over-tanned bimbos….
you wear sunglasses at night too…. doncha?
