Has anyone else noticed that nasty smell around north street? It’s terrible. I’ve never been more uncomfortable with breathing in a weird unknown smell before- Possibly because it smells like something dead is burning. It’s like an old damp and moldy rug that smells strangely sweet.. Does anyone know what the hell this is? Oland brewery? the hospital? is there a crematorium near by? what’s happening in this city?!?

There is a crematorium and a coffee roastery (right next to the creamatorium) at North and Robie.

Probably the brewery. I used to live in the area and noticed the smell of the hops fermenting. Not very pleasent. Beer’s good though.

It’s the roastery. The brewery blows that way a couple times a month but the coffee beans are what you smell. Weird how something that smells so shitty can taste so good.
it’s a gilfilga fish or some such spelling of the stink you smell. it has been going on for a long time. wear noseplugs or something if you are that fucking sensitive to it. just another ordinary day in halisucks folks, move along, nothing to see or smell new here.

The strong, slightly bitter, burning smell you are experiencing is roasting coffee beans… the finished product is great but the roasting process is pretty stinky.
The god aweful smell that comes from the brewery is not the fermenting hops. The smell comes from the fermented rice that’s used to make Budweiser beer. They dump it 2-3 times a month. When the big hopper opens up and starts spilling it into the tanker truck, it looks like a gigantic anus! It’s really nasty. I used to work at the brewery and if you think the small is bad around the neighbourhood, you should smell it from 10 feet away!!
There’s a crematorium on King St. right across from Ambassatours.
when i first moved here i looked at a house on king st. that was for sale…now i know why it was so cheap
