So I’m walking the trail around the frog pond—nice, I’m outdoors, there’s trees, water, ducks, and little black bags of dog poo everywhere!! Really? If you went through the effort of picking up after your dog, please take your responsibility as a pet owner full circle and put it in the trash! Just carry it to the parking lot (where there is a trash can), better yet, strap it to the collar and make your dog carry it. Just please stop ruining areas with your litter. —Pooped Out

  1. Really? They can’t even take their bag of shit to the garbage can?? That is just the height of lazy. I tell people I’m from Nova Scotia but I don’t say I’m proud of it anymore…

  2. If it bothers you that much then complain to the city about the lack of garbage cans around. Half the problem is lack of garbage cans around. Don’t expect poeple to carry garbage around waiting to come across a garbage can.

  3. I find the whole “there aren’t enough garbage cans” argument to be very childish. You won’t go blind from carrying YOUR garbage with you for an extended period of time.

  4. While I do agree there should be MORE cans around , there are SOME. I bad my dogs poop and carry it till I find one of those. People leaving it on the ground in a bag are just lazy and making harder for the rest of us

  5. That, Mel and the fact that these people decided to get a dog. If they didn’t want to carry around bags of shit, they shouldn’t’ve gotten a dog in the first place. It’s their responsibility to take care of their dog and pick up after them just as it’s my responsibility to make sure my cat’s litter is in a bag in the garbage room — not dumped randomly in the woods somewhere (because I COULD do that, y’know).

And at least when I scoop my cat’s poop it’s not all warm and soft and it’s usually covered in a protective layer of litter and I use a scooper so I don’t actually have to touch it! 🙂

  6. I just don’t see what’s so hard about carrying any garbage with you, whether it be a bag-o-poo, Tim’s cup, cigarette butt, packaging, etc. You carried it with you to your destination, you can carry it back home.

  7. It has nothing to do with a lack of garbage cans. There are always garbage cans somewhere.. whether it’s at a park or a bus stop.. you can find them, and if you don’t I bet you have a garbage can at home. People are just lazy and will find any excuse not to do something that requires even the slightest effort.

  8. There are far less poop bags than timmies cups floating around parks and streets, by comparison. Not defending irresponsible dog owners, but, there is a culture in Halifax of being a lazy douchebag.

On a related topic, what about biodegradable poop bags, which require sunlight to decompose? They certainly don’t get that, buried under 40 tons of garbage in the landfill. Is it ok to whip those into the woods? I always feel it defeats the purpose to put them in a garbage can that goes straight to the landfill (I put my biobags in the trash, but everytime I do I feel it defeats the purpose).

  9. PG, you can comes pick up my little guys poop. It’s awsome, he shits like a human, sometimes you have to use two hands in one bag. Sorry to hear about your pup.

  10. thanks stephen, it’s been almost a month, some days are better than others

  11. I heard that, it’s been about 6 weeks since my old girl passed. I have to say it’s pretty fucking weird without the old bat.

  12. I walk on the BLT rails to trails and they not only provide little black bag dispensers, but there are plenty of large garbage bins along the trail, but still lazy mutt owners either don’t clean up the shit or leave the black bags – lazy fuckers.
There are also hundreds of empty cups, chip bags, garbage etc tossed at the side of the trail you wonder what kind of scum would do that.
