I realize that I’m working for you. That’s fine. BUT, it really drives me INSANE when I’m doing my job, such as, answering the phone (because I’m the Office Manager and that’s part of my duties) that you BUTT in on the conversation with whoever is on the other end that I’m speaking with, and start asking me questions about the conversation WHILE I’M TRYING TO HEAR WHAT THE PERSON ON THE OTHER END IS SAYING!! “Who’s that?”, “What do they want?”, “No, we can’t do that.” Therefore, it makes me ask them to repeat themselves because I’m trying to listen to the both of you. Look, if you want to control the conversation, answer the fucking phone yourself. I’m tired of it, already. And soon, I’m going to snap at you because I’m tired of being interrupted all the time when I’m handling the conversation perfectly fine. You jump to conclusions and half the time you get what the person was calling for or the outcome wrong! You have no idea what they’re saying or asking for on the other end.

Fuck off and stay in your office. I’ll buzz you if you’re needed. Or you can start picking up the phone yourself and maybe then, my headache will subside.

  1. OP, ignore him while you’re on the phone. Let him be the one to become frustrated or angry and THEN put it on speaker. Have fun!!!

  2. Get an earplug for the ear that’s not connected to the receiver. 🙂

Depending on how much of a sense of humor s/he has, get a water gun. Worked for me a few years back…

  3. Just put your hand on the reciever of the phone and politely say, “It’s really unprofessional when you interject in a conversation that you are only hearing 50% of, please allow me to finish.” now you have to be pretty careful in how you say it, your mannerisim are going to be what makes it sink or succeed. If done right…no more bothersome interrupts, if it fails…pissy boss.

  4. I used to have a boss that did that shit. I’d be a passenger in the truck answering the business cell and having him constantly talking questions in my other ear . Fuck – it was hard to listen – you just can’t listen to two people at once and answer the customers questions at the same time . I actually got mad once at him and said ” Listen if you want to ask the questions and jabber – i’ll drive and you answer the phone . “. That was the end of that . Annoying thou – I feel for the OP on this one .

  5. I agree with DER… but that is so hard to do sometimes. I am not good at standing up to my boss… work sucks… I need to win the lotto!!

  6. My boss constantly does that too. Hears me pick up the phone and hollers to me to ask the person on the other end questions, and half the time he doesn’t realize I’m talking to a different person than he thinks. He also has a habit of standing next to me to wait to tell me something while I’m talking on the phone, as if him waiting there will speed up my conversation. It’s quite irritating, but luckily most people on the other end are understanding.
