So I’ve been to this little convenience store several times close to my house and everytime I go in a little chime goes off to alert the counter person who comes in from their apartment to stand behind the counter and watch my every move. I feel the eyes piercing from behind the counter watching my every move and quite frankly makes me feel like I should hurry the hell up so they can go back to watching day time TV. As I gather my purchases I can hear the cash register ringing in every item I pick up even before I come to the counter to pay. A few times I’ve picked up a few items just to see if they would ring it in and as soon as they did I would put it back, can we say VOID and delete! —Blondie

  1. gee blondie, maybe you should get dagwood to do the shopping there from now on. seeing as you are getting kind of paranoid about the owner watching you. maybe, just maybe, he wants to see how much stuff you get, in case you or anyone else, tries to rip him off. that way the cops know ecactly how much was swiped

  2. These mom and pop stores are often family run, and one person may have a very long shift. You sound like kind of an asshole, OP. Why don’t you think about the advantages of a little store where you know the owners such as stocking things that you request, setting up a monthly charge and saving the last paper for you?

  3. You’re complaining that they’re immediately attentive and serve you too fast? Shit, I wish I had your problems.

  4. Xenophilia is right…these family run convenience stores require so many hours that in the end, the hourly wage works out far below minimum wage. It’s a popular example in a lot of university business courses. They probably put so many hours in that the time in front of the TV represents the only life they have away from the shop for the most part.

  5. And if they didn’t do it so quickly I feel like this would be a bitch about how slow and inconvenient the store is. Their job sucks, lay off and smile at them once in a while.

  6. They have to keep a close eye on their inventory OP. That can of tomato soup alone is worth seven dollars.

  7. Well of course they shouldn’t come into the store when the bell chimes. We know everyone is honest and will put their money on the counter for the things they bought.
