Funny how most pedestrians blame the drivers for people getting hit in Cross walks. Honestly in the end it is the fault of the pedestrian. We should be smart enough to know being aware of what’s going on around you well help keep you safe. We learned it as children before Crossing we look both ways, make eye contact and once all traffic has STOPPED For you then you can safely walk across. The real problem is most people are too self-involved and self entitled these days to think they should have to stand and wait the 30 seconds it may take for traffic to stop for them. So they just walk out thinking that right of way will protect them, guess what it doesn’t. SURPRISE. You hear about people getting hit by busses and garbage trucks, how far up your own ass is your head when you don’t see or hear something that big, slow and loud coming towards you. Wake up people please stop blaming your stupidity on the drivers. My 4 and 8 year old kids can cross a street safely, wanna know why ? Because they wait until traffic has STOPPED for them, pretty easy right ? Lets all try it FFS —Get your head out of your asses people

  1. Sometimes it’s the driver sometimes it’s pedestrian, as someone who drives sometimes and walks most of the time I can see both sides. Your right, even it the pedestrian has the right away they still need to be sure and not storm out head down not paying attention. The driver also needs to beware that people could walk out if front anytime. If they hit someone in the middle of the crosswalk hard to blame the person walking on that one. I don’t know if they are handled case by case, but they are not all cut and dry.

  2. I think the majority of accidents in the last couple of years have been drivers either running red lights or turning on corners without looking. Except for a handful of stupid cases, most have occurred within crosswalks (marked or not). Not everyone stops when they’re supposed to, dingus. It’s not entirely one side’s job to not kill/get killed, but as a fleshy pedestrian, I always err on the side of caution.

  3. How can a person compete with a 2000 pound vehicle? I think you could safely put the blame on both drivers and pedestrians for two reasons: inattention and impatience.

  4. “My 4 and 8 year old kids can cross a street safely”. You’re comparing your kids to people who walk to school or work every day? So, you let your 4 year old walk around town and cross streets unsupervised do you?

  5. It’s been my experience that the biggest problem is with drivers who are stopped at a red light and looking for an opportunity to turn right. They watch the oncoming traffic to their left and then stomp on the gas when they see an opening – without taking the time to check for pedestrians. I see it every day.

  6. Its 50/50 for both sides of this. If everyone payed attenchen to the surroundings this stuff wouldn’t happen as much.

  7. Driving through parking lots I see young families with children, They never attempt to make eye contact with me when they decide to walk in front of my car, What kind of morons teach their children this, As a child I was taught to always make damn sure I had eye contact with the driver, Todays people are literally useless

  8. Vehicles don’t appear out of thin air just before they hit you. No matter what the situation, when the walk light turns green or before you cross any street don’t start walking right away facing forward. Take a second to look around. Make sure before you step out on to the street, there isn’t a car close enough that if the driver isn’t paying attention you will get hit. It seems pretty easy to me.

It’s because you CAN’T compete with a 2000 lb vehicle, as a pedestrian you need to be smarter and quit bringing up right of way and worrying about who is techincally at fault. because in the end if you’re hurt or even worse, dead and the shitty driver walks away with a ticket then you’re still the dumb ass who should have been a little more aware of their surroundings before crossing.

Or you can just keep walking across the street all willy nilly and hope that somebody doesn’t hit you. Good luck with that.

  9. Personally, I think the onus and almost always the blame should go to the person who could smoosh another person into road pizza without incurring any physical damage to themself.
They’re harboring a huge weapon… they should be the ones to be able to maintain control of it and not squish people in the process.
There are exceptions of course… but in a crosswalk???
That’s where they should be MOST attentive unless they enjoy losing nearly a grand and inflicting immeasurable pain on others.
