I recently moved to Halifax and decided to take in the Parade of Lights, and I was absolutely disgusted by the amount of litter left along the curb by parade attendees. Come on Halifax! The city just put on a parade for your enjoyment- you attended- so why not show a little gratitude by picking up your coffee cups and food wrappers and disposing of them properly? There were garbage/recycling/compost bins all along the parade route, in fact they’re all over this city.
Take some pride in Halifax Haligonians and clean up after yourselves!!

yeah… you haven’t been here that long.
it’s ok.. it’ll all wash downhill into the harbour and ‘clean itself’
yeah, show some gratitude by not BREAKING THE LAW. Good idea. If only ALL Haligonians were so thoughtful.
Some people are gross, no matter where you are.
I agree , we do have alot of lazy people in this city who can’t be bothered to help keep it clean. I was driving down Robie the other day to see that someone had thrown their McD’s garbage out their car window, it was all spread out along the road. Who does that ?
Where are you from originally OP, Japan? We Haligonians are generally a clean people, but I guess not as clean as the Japanese. My Uncle told me the streets were clean enough to eat off of them when he was there 20 years ago.
People even complain about the street cleaners, go figure.
I watched some guy lean against a garbace can at the Needs across from the Highfield bus terminal as he unwrapped his new pack of smokes and tosses the plastic and foil onto the ground. Lazy!
Kay paid people $2 each to litter the streets so she can rant about how dirty Nova Scotians are. She made everyone pay their own $2 to be in her cult though.
Er, I don’t think the mess left behind after a parade is unique to Halifax!
I’m glad people get in crowd situations & make a huge mess.
Now before you all get to bashing me…look at it the way I do.
Every concert or show, big or small needs people to put it together, take it apart etc. THese people are “employed”…. employed people are getting paid to do a job.
You end up with a huge mess…someone has to clean it up !
THe people who clean up the mess…You got it, are WORKING & making money to take care of themselves & their families .
Isn’t that better than having them spread out around the downtown shaking a paper cup & asking for ‘spare change’ ?
Now bash away .
I’d like to More, but you almost have a point there. Still no reason why we can’t make their jobs easier.
On Sunday we had a family get together at Fathers on SGR – I parked further up SGR and on the walk to and from my car the amount of garbage cans overflowing from the night before was appaling. There were pop cans, chip bags etc all over the place and blowing into the Public Gardens – it’s a sad sight.
New York (Manahattan) is cleaner, so is Vancouver – we’re turning into a shithole.
Face it. If it isn’t your property then who gives a fuck. This seems to be a common attitude of how (not all) people behave at public events. Shame what kind of example the parents are teaching their kids.
i witnessed a chinese student push his bag of garbage into and down a storm drain! come on, this isn’t china.
