To everyone who whines, and complains about how much Halifax/Nova Scotia sucks, and how terrible it is:
If you don’t like it, MOVE!!!
May I suggest going to a third world, improvished country so you having something legitimate to bitch about.
—I love this town
This article appears in Nov 19-25, 2009.

ahem… KAY *cough*
Improvished eh? Sounds pretty awesome to me…
I am in agreement with the OP of this bitch. Life is way too short to live it unhappy. Better to live somewhere where one is content. For me, that place is here.
I love Nova Scotia, I just think if all the conservatives/smokers died it would be that much better.
True dat, in Honduras they spend more money on dentists than doctors from all the bloody Coke…the water is so thick and tainted you could sit in it.
Not all third world countries are as horrible as they seem. I think there’s a reason that many impoverished nations also happen to be in warmer climates, as people are better able to live off the land with minimal shelter. Also, the heat tends to make you lazier! Seriously, how can you expect people to be productive when they have to deal with temperatures of 40 C and 90% humidity on a daily basis? I’ve been in climates like this and it really does sllooowww yooouuuu dooooyaaawwwwnnn.
Back on topic, I agree that Nova Scotia freakin’ rules, however, if someone has legitimate complaints about things that should be fixed to make life better for the general population, we should at least hear them out rather than telling them to “get the fuck out if they don’t like it.” The people who are simply whiners, though, can gladly make like a tree and leave.
“” I think there’s a reason that many impoverished nations also happen to be in warmer climates, as people are better able to live off the land with minimal shelter.””
I dunno about that…I expect it has more to do with the distribution in the earth of things like metals, east-west migration and suitable trade patterns, and availablility of animals and plants that were suitable for domestication…all things that were necessary to build wealthy societies
However, I think you may have hit on a great theory why there so many street bums in Vancouver!
you know what, it isn’t the area you live in, it’s the fucking people that make any town or city the shits, nough said.
halifax is a fucking dump
True LS, but sometimes you have people that move there for the rolling hills, the ocean etc… but once they get there they realize the people are asshats. Probably the reason why they can only attract immigrants from improvised countries.
As great as it may be here – and there are a lot of things Halifax has going for it, that shouldn’t mean people can’t bitch/dream/help plan to make this place better… cause it isn’t the be all and end all that’s for sure. And anyway, bitching but not acting, that’s the Canadian way, isn’t it?
Wow Honduras sounds like my kind of place… lol!
Don’t dump on the 3rd world! I’ve been to many impoverish countries and lived like a king down there. 3rd world countries rock for men like me with money.
OOOOOR….lets see, see the problems for what it is, get together as a responsible community(yeah right not gonna happen) and sort out the issues like adults. If there IS a problem(which there are many) then the community has the right to BITCH about it in the sake of change. Otherwise problems compound, more murders/panhandlers all that shit you know? So…how bout we fix the problems that people bitch about in regards to the city, instead of saying an assanine comment like LEAVE?! Responsibility is on us folks.
This bitch is so typical of Haligonia… if we treat you like shit and you complain you just feel free to fuck off. At least you’re predictable.
Cuja, I think I dig you
I wrote this bitch mainly because of something like this:
http://www.thecoast.ca/LovetheWayWeBitch/a…
I understand that there are legitimate issues; but posts like the link above just validate my opinion… If you think Halifax/Nova Scotia is so terrible jus because, then those are the people that should leave.
Isn’t everybody entitled to bitch, Snap? I totally understand where the OP was coming from in that bitch. People who don’t live here have a false idea of what haligonians are about. You should forgive them when they’re genuinely disappointed this is NOT the “friendly” town Tourism Canada talks about.
we’re friendly if you don’t act like a raging cunt all the fucking time….
zZz you took the words right out of my mouth.
If you walk around with a chip on your shoulder or some ridiculous sense of entitlement then the friendly Haligonians aren’t going to be so friendly.
I just did gtfou
Haligonians chip chip chip away and then presume it must have always been there and that they didn’t actually create it. Typical. It’s called a defensive posture and you all come by it so naturally that when I bitch it’s happening to me that you assume I deserve to be treated like SHIT as a result of that chip YOU carved out of me. Hey, I’m one of you now. You shouldn’t be surprised this HAS to happen to a person to endure your abusive bullshit. Suicide is not an option much to your disappointment, ya rude fucks
Then again, some people are just assholes who complain for the sake of something to do, and when it comes to manners, I don’t think Haligonians are the worst.
Come to think of it, saying everyone in Halifax is nice, and polite is like saying everyone in Toronto is an arrogant prick, and everyone in BC smokes pot; Gotta love sterotypes and generalizations
P.S: I’m probably making no sense, but I’m stoned on cough meds so it’s all good for me 😀
zZz and Jennier are right. A nasty approach will get you the same response no matter where you live. Haligonians/Nova Scotians aren’t unique to this. People everywhere react to rudeness in the same way. Nova Scotians are very friendly. Newfoundlanders even more so, but both also have a low tolerance for bullshit from come-from-aways who are quick to criticize. Even young children learn that the best way to make a friend is to be one. Be an enemy and that’s what you will make. You reap what you sow.
If that were true you’d love the old me but you hated her kindness and felt inclined to step on it. You’re dam right you reap you sow.
Kay, first off, the expression “chip on your shoulder” refers to carrying something extra on your shoulder, not having a chip carved out of you, but that’s besides the point.
Everyone assumes you were an asshole from the get go because 9 out of 10 people who move here (me included) with no bullshit holier than thou attitude don’t run into the kind problems you’re constantly whining about.
Furthermore, based on your comments, you’re not a very understanding person, you’re quick to judge and you’ve got this wonderful habit of painting everyone with the same brush. “typical haligonians this, hateful nova scotians that”. These condescending, ignorant and just plain intolerant behaviours are shit you learn young not over a couple of years.
Whether I say it or not, it’s true. I didn’t invent Haligonia, you did. And you can call that chip lessons well learned and not soon forgotten. I certainly didn’t have it when I arrived. Congrats. I’m one of you now so STFU or leave. LOL
Kay you will NEVER be one of us because you just don’t get it. Besides, life is way to short to live it unhappy. If you hate living among Nova Scotians this much why DO you stay? Why not be where you will be happiest? To quote Dr. Suess, “You have brains in your head, you have feet in your shoes, you can steer yourself any direction you choose.” Perhaps you prefer unhappiness since you choose to stay.
I’ve gone over this 100 times already. I stay and I’ll make Haligonia better for it by empowering effective charities that are needed so badly. YOUR elders and veterans push around shopping carts and die outside in the wintertime. That speaks VOLUMES about the people of the region.
Oceanlady, aren’t you the one who imagined a personal attack from every opposing post? Well, pot, there you go. You’re black too now. Funny how that happens, huh?
Kay, is there a particular region that has no “elders and veterans who push around shopping carts and die outside in the wintertime” you’d like Halifax to mimic? I hope the amount of time you obviously spend on LTWWB doesn’t interfere with your charity work.
Kay, kay, kay, kay… let me guess, here we go with another 187 post bitch, with 175 of those posts saying “kay you’re a fucking idiot,” “kay you’re wrong,” “shut the fuck up, kay,” “kay kay kay kay kay!”
I’ll stay away from this one! But only because I’m jealous of all the attention kay gets, of course.
kay, kay, kay! Why can’t it be qpmz, qpmz, qpmz!
because you don’t post 250 times a day…
and aren’t nearly as much of a twat-weasel most of the time.
I stand by the Pink Floyd take on society: “Pigs: the people in society who seek to persuade us all that they have the answers and know what is best for those of us who do not.”
And no Kay, I am not the one who imagined a personal attack from every opposing post. I am quite capable of making my point while agreeing to disagree with others. I don’t expect anyone else to agree with me. People are entitled to believe what they like whether they are right or wrong, myself included. Nasty put-downs and utter vitriol are not necessary. You are the one who imagined I thought I was under personal attack for every opposing post. A-S-S-U-M-E, well, you know how that one goes…
As for staying to help the helpless Nova Scotians, there must be poor people who you could help in a city where you WOULD be happy. Why martyr yourself on behalf of the clueless Nova Scotians?
If I were a martyr I wouldn’t post anonymously. Please try again. Actually… why not comment on the OP instead, eh?
“”halifax is a fucking dump””
Hahaha…unlike the beautiful metropolis of Liverpool, with it’s boarded up satanic mills, run-down and impoverished council estates, rampant drug use and the highest ASBO rate in the country…not to mention the highest hooligan violence in the league, including a string of deaths caused by stampeding drunken morons…
And don’t forget the work of Brian Sykes and his team of genticists at Oxford that found that 1 in 7 scousers doesn’t have the dad he thinks he does, lol
Halifax does suck! And I’m GONNA STAY. Take that!
—I hate this town
“If I were a martyr I wouldn’t post anonymously.”
Pretty sure you have stated on many occasions that Kay is your real name.
(oh what a tangle web we weave…)
I like HRM too. I used to be more enthusiastic about it, but it has changed since I first moved here.
yeah, but you don’t know who I am, do you? How effective is a martyr with no face? Why don’t you just give up on the kay-bashing. It’s getting boring and very typical of sheep behavior in the neighborhood. You wouldn’t want to be that, would you? Try for an original thought. That would make a good start.
When I first arrived here you Haligonians were busy making criminals of squeegee kids. Start there and explain what a lovely town this is…. NOT
I try not to comment on bitches that become Kay-centric (it’s like spinning tires in mud) but I had a good laugh imagining the valiant charitable work she does for cart-pushing vets. It appears all your honourable volunteer work isn’t paying off if you still can’t think of anything nice to say about the region. Just for shits and gigs, mind if I challenge you to come up with just three positive things to say about Nova Scotia, HRM or the people who live here?
“yeah…”
Yeah, what? Yeah, I lie? Yeah, I have no integrity? Yeah, I’ll say anything to get you to pay attention to me? Yeah, if I can’t get respect I’ll take irritation, distaste or disgust instead? Yeah, I’m a fool?
Yeah.
Viva la Halifax!
“yeah…” kay’s my name. Do you TRY to be so daft or does it come to you naturally? HKM (I’m nearly positive I know who you are, I’ll be sure to wink atchya next weekend)
no, I don’t bitch here because there are things to love about Halifax. You’ve got the wrong blog for that, blue.
I am pretty sure that I am obvious to a lot of people. So?
I guess I was just trying to understand why you bother working toward any sort of charitable goal if we Nova Scotians/Haligonians are all so hopeless.
“hopeless” is not a word I’ve ever used to describe haligonians. Please try again. Actually, why not comment on the OP instead, huh?
Don’t wait for that wink HKM. Kay was sure she knew my identity too, a laughable concept on an anonymous venue. She was wrong.
I remember = ). Yeah, she said I had a big nose too. Nope, I don’t.
If you two know each other and hang then I’ve gotchya both pegged as very VERY stupid in my presence. I’ll not get into the details and I could be wrong. It just doesn’t matter and certainly doesn’t matter to the bitches here. Move on ladies. Move on.
looking down your big nose at others in judgment was a metaphor and quite an accurate one. not too swift are ya? COMPLETELY consistent with the girl I think you might be. Always the victim. boohoo
Pigs are such a boar!
Kay, if you were a martyer you’d be dead and the world would be a better place.
So fuck off and go chew on open wires then get back to us.
Ha! ocean outta nowhere…..
We did. It’s been fantastic. Halifax, we found, was full of the worst of canada, rude, arrogant, and xenophobic. Thinking its shit doesn’t stink.
Toronto by comparison? Has been very friendly. we’ve been treated better here in the 4 months since we moved than the 2 years in Halifax where we were practically outcast as CFA’s.
After a while, we didn’t bother to hide how we felt, because as soon as you’re discovered to be “from away”, people just treat you like shit even if you never said another word.
Be glad that there’s no amount of money on this earth that would make me step foot in the region ever again, I only lament the two wasted years there.
Too bad your experience was so negative Hellifaxsucks. I am a CFA who has never had a problem fitting in. I get treated quite well by the locals. Why is it that some people have problems fitting in and others don’t? Perhaps it is the approach. Perhaps it is about personality types. Those with positive, winning personalities seem to get further in life than those without. I’ve lived in Toronto too and never had a problem fitting in there or anywhere else I’ve lived. People in Ontario tend to be more stand-offish while East Coasters are generally more open. There are positive and negative people everywhere. Far healthier to keep the positive ones in one’s life and the negative ones at arms length, in Toronto or Halifax or anywhere else.
I always wonder why people like “HellifaxSucks” continue to read The Coast online long after they’ve left NS.
stopped by for a laugh, mostly. Not often. Just to watch the train wreck. To watch the lovely trainwreck that is halifax and its people.
I’m actually from the west coast and when people discovered this, before we’d said another word, they shut us out, made nasty comments.
However, everyone we’ve met or dealt with in TO has been gracious, friendly, helpful and welcoming as we settle in it our new neighborhood. No one sneers at me for being “from away.”, because in most cases we all are.
But mostly it’s friendly in a way we expected of Halifax and didn’t happen. So we eventually stopped trying to be nice. We tried for a while. We got told off simply because we’re not one of you.
Instead I have a big diverse city, where the busses run and the heritage buildings aren’t rotting and oh, every person we’ve met says “Welcome to Toronto!” where I could barely get an indifferent grunt from the same in Hali. East coasters more open? I seriously never saw evidence of that.
It’s sure funny reading all the “we are the best!” from people who haven’t been anywhere, and don’t want anyone different in their ranks. Aw. What cute little xenophobes.
Well heres my example of friendly halifax folks. I have been down the wrong turn in one of the most dangerous places in the US, and a fella there quietly walked over to me and asked me if i really wanted to be down here, i said no, and he and his buddies escorted me out of that place without a scratch and nice directions to get back to comforting ground. My first weekend in Halifax, i asked a lady this exact question “Excuse me ma’am could you please tell me how to get to here?” and she said FUCK YOU you filthy creature. I guess clean dress pants, shirt, jacket and tie were filthy. I was sober and polite…never have i ever been treated like that, even by americans. That one bad influence set the tone for what i see everyday now. Even my wife who has lived here all her life agrees it isnt the best place to live. Just goes to show.
“”every person we’ve met says “Welcome to Toronto!” “”
And in 50 different languages to boot!
Hooray…for, erm “diversity”
“It’s sure funny reading all the “we are the best!” from people who haven’t been anywhere, and don’t want anyone different in their ranks”
I have travelled, and Halifax is not THE BEST… But it’s not as bad as some people make it out to be
yeah, there’s some medium ground there….
If only we had a couple places, I wouldn’t want to move to ontario so much.
Wonderland and wild water kindom are two that come to mind.
somehow upper clement’s park and magic mountain don’t quite compare….
Wonderland and WW Kingdom are nice but will never compare to the ocean where one can have an exhilarating ride for free on the right wave…
You want to move to Ontario because of Canada’s Wallyworld?
Sure, it’s fun once or twice, but then what?
If you want exitement, get a little speed-boat and head out for some wave-jumping in the Atlantic, take-up SCUBA or sailing..you live in an ocean playground, and you want to pay 50 bucks to go to an Ontario water-park filled with urine-diluted pools and 2 hour line-ups?
Grab a surf-board and a suit and head to the beach in Lawrencetown ffs!…the 10 dollar “nachos” with melted cheese whiz you’ll have to supply yourself…
As for Ontario…other than the potpourri of so-called “culture” one finds in Toronto…the rednecks in rural Ontario make our rural folks look like Parisian beat-poets in comparison…
we had a nice spot north of barrie but it took 3 hours to get there, this place is small folks…look at a map we are almost an island…bmf is dead on and the only thing i liked about ww were the coasters yeeha front car
PG…a few years ago, a friend of my gf’s was screwing one of the owners/partners/bosses, (or maybe it was her, who cares!) so we got these 2 VIP passes that booted us through the line-ups, AND gave us the FRONT car…seriously we did each coaster as much as we wanted…you just walk up the out ramp, flash this pass, and get ushered to the front…and watch the little disappointed faces of the folks that have been queuing for 2 hours for the front car, heh heh…”stand aside commoner!”
Of course they can get the next one, no big deal.
Moral? If your GF is gonna do threesomes and shit while you’re away…make sure
it’s with important people, e.g. not musicians
If you want fun and excitment, go to Vegas. The place is an amusement park for adults!
suppose, though I would need a passport for that… and I have family I can crash with in On to keep it cheap… not so much in vegas.
and I used to go to wonderland every year as a kid… so i suppose it has sentimental value.
I’d love to get a boat and sail around but somehow that’s not quite comparable price wise to a few hundred bucks to get to On.
