It matters not which side of the fence I am on. There is a strike in progress and so be it. Yet there seems to be a strange double standard here. In our community there is a site where there have been shelters built, there are multiple burn pits, and piles of wood waiting to be burned. Yet not too long ago during the occupy movement, all buildings were removed, people lost personal belongings while standing for something they believed in. Personally I have had no involvement in either protest, yet we have this growing mess in our neighbourhood, which is conveniently left there over night, and on the weekends, when it is not convenient to man the post. My request is that all these protestors be treated in the same manner by the city, and that those who protest and ask for our support, please respect our community. You are welcome to your thoughts and opinions, but if I can be fined for leaving my garbage on the curb too long, then those same fines should apply here. —Why are Protestor Employed by the City Not Subject to the Same Rules?

Make a complaint with the city to have them either clean it up or be ticketed. Document every step in the process, record the name of every city official that you deal with and if possible, film the strikers when the police show up.
The Coast won’t report on this but there’s always the MSM.
Good news, everyone! http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/…
Check to see if they have iPhones, and if they do, shit all over them!
(this Occupy Memorial comment was brought to you by Apple Corp, choke holds, and Silly Nannies everywhere!)

(loves all of you- yes, even *you*)
one is as bad as the other, yeah, go ahead and strike. doesn’t affect me.
Personally believe that both the occupy protest and bus strike were over the top and unnecessary but that’s just one persons point of veiw:) I agree on the cleanup, people shpuld be responsible for their own mess:stash your trash! 🙂
Do I smell binding arbitration?
no, you smell shit burning, as in the brains of hrm.
The city made the right move. The union has got to get their heads out of their asses and realize that using an antiquated scheduling system does not benefit the tax payers. Bus operators make enough money as it is, and trust me, this is ALL that this is about. They want the ability to rack up as much overtime as they can. What they are saying about rostering affecting their quality of life is smoke and mirrors. It is ALL about money, and that is money out of our pockets.
Once again HRM Council show their unique ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. I swear, these chuckleheads could go to Syria and make that chinless cocksucker Assad look sympathetic. Whcichever mayoral candidate promises to adorn the ramparts of the Citadel with the heads of defeated incumbents on pikes is getting my vote.

It was quite entertaining to see them huffing, puffing and having heart attacks after walking across the bridge yesterday. Are the paramedics on strike? Let’s hope not.
In other news, I’m quite happy to see anti-strike one-man protest rockstar dude is back at the bridge terminal.
It’s a good thing for the anti-strike one-man protester that Metro Transit workers aren’t represented by the sters of teams or the workers of canadian auto. That guy’s sandwich board would be shoved firmly up his ass long ago. After being beaten up side the head with it, of course.
Anyone remember the volvo plant takeover in 1998?
Heh.
Also: the city’s unwillingness to go to arb and end this whole clusterfuck of a debacle has my support firmly realigned with the ATU membership (not the union, the MEMBERSHIP).
Also: what I don’t get it this: I was talking to my dad last night. When he semi-retired in the 90s, he was a union rep for the org he worked for. He was also an alternate on their bargaining committee and knows every labour law inside and out (along with their collective agreement). He’s been involved in grievance arb for members and knows the ins and outs of how unions should work. He told me that he finds it really odd that the union is seemingly not presenting the offers put on the table by HRM to the membership. He said that any time a new contract was negotiated, every offer from the employer was sent to the membership. The Union would recommend voting for or against, but in every case, the offer was voted on. Once, even, the Union recommended against accepting the agreement, and the membership accepted it anyway. So, have HRM’s offers been presented to membership and/or voted on, or is Ken just not bothering with this? Also, a lot of unions don’t have their president in on negotiations – a committee is often set up with reps from the membership who are the ones sitting at the table. Who else is at the bargaining table here?
The ATU seems a little fucked up if you asked me.
I’d consider going with a new union after this if I were a MT driver/employee.
You’re right PT, Ken Wilson and the union executives have never presented the city’s offers to the membership. I believe he is feeding them propaganda and that if the members knew the exact truth and were able to vote on the city’s offers, this would have been over long ago
Op, you are an idiot. the occupy were tenting and homesteading.
