Read the articles supplied by a great newspaper, The COAST. Management of transit cause overtime every time there is a concert, fireworks, show at exhibition park, or a sale at the local mall for christ sakes. They make you think the drivers walk in the door and say “I want 4 hours overtime today.” Get real, the management, or lack of management dictates when there is overtime and who gets it. If people weren’t forced into unions, forced to be indoctrinated on how to screw the public at large like Ken Wilson and his buddies seem to be experts at here – we would have a much different situation.
If the drivers didn’t want to strike, they’d be working.

OMFG; this city is so small that one could walk from one end to the other in under an hour …… be thankful the weather gods are smiling on you and we have been enjoying milder temps this winter ….. did it rain or snow since the strike? Probably not much ….. if ya has to walk the fresh air is refreshing ….. if it takes you more than an hour to walk to where you want to go then you need the exercise more than you need the bus ….. albeit there are people living in butt-fuck nowhere who chose the location without realizing the implications …….. if ya can’t get to school/work/grocery store/appointments/bordello/liquor store/clinic/Timmies within an hour walking you have no one to blame but your fucking self!

It’s about money and always was, scheduling, other stuff aside it always comes down to dollars. Don’t really care what each side says, your don’t get the whole picture anyhow.
Personally, I despise unions. While their purpose, at one time, might have been noble, they are now often as corrupt and greedy as the management they’re fighting. Do you think some old lady on pension or a single mother on assistance(both deprived of transportation)gives a sweet shit about fucking scheduling? If you can’t cope with the scheduling, did it ever enter your miniscule mind that maybe being a bus driver isn’t your vocation? These overpaid bastards should be legislated back to work.
When the union, in a sign of “good faith”, puts the accessabus back on the roads, I will entertain the thought of reassessing my opinion. Until then, “blow me”. I don’t care who’s right and who’s wrong!!!
As for the overtime issue… Of course there is going to be overtime to accommodate extra activities, above and beyond the regular routes, thanks for pointing that out smart guy, I bet there’s even overtime on NYE when the buses run till 2:00am. Maybe you could have the coast look into that for us too.
Bottom line is, people are sick and tired of public sector unions extorting more than what they deserve, and holding the taxpayer at ransom. At least some of the other unions have a president with a little class!!!
The public only knows so much the rest is being keep quiet.
At this point in the strike many can be thankful we are not having a bad winter. Hopefully they stop playing chicken so the drivers can get back to work.
Oooh those moron managers, putting more buses on the road during busy events! If you’re so fed up with how things are being run, why are you fighting to keep things the same? You guys currently can pick your shifts but you still can’t keep a marriage together so I don’t think you can blame it on scheduling. BTW, don’t you pick your shifts and keep those shifts for three months? Can you seriously not plan a doctor’s appointment knowing when you work for the next three months?

I wonder if OP owns his own car? My mom does. And she also lives and works outside of town. It’s easy to have patience when your health or livelihood isn’t at stake.

Private sector people are having to work longer hours for less money, and if they don’t like it they’re getting the boot. Wake up and take a look at the real world!

I heard most of the transit workers don’t even WANT to be on strike and it’s all the union’s fault. My friend’s dad is a driver and he says, with sorrow in his voice, that they don’t see an end yet..
You are right Ella, most drivers don’t want to be on strike and were initially mislead by the union as to what they were actually striking about. In the last few years there has been an influx of new drivers with older drivers retiring. The remaining senior drivers are the ones running this piss show. Ask this, why won’t Ken Wilson simply present the offers from the city to the union members? How is it fair that a few elected union officials get to decide on this while the actual drivers freeze their asses off and not have a say as to whether to accept or decline the city’s offers? The union officials say that the city is not negotiating in good faith yet is them who have not given anything back at the table. This is simply a case of union bureaucracy gone wrong.

I find it hard to believe that “most drivers don’t want to be on strike” considering ninety-something percent of them voted -to- strike. A strike isn’t just like a 2 day circle jerk where people bring you coffee and honk at you, it could potentially last a looong ass time. The last one lasted 5 weeks! That’s unfortunate if the union members were actually mislead like you say BRoc.

Had a disagreement with the gf last week about it and told her to go back to some of his older stuff and see for herself. An hour later she came downstairs and said “Yeah, you’re right”. Lol, after sue uteck was on 95.7 yesterday, and said council is not going to bend on the scheduling issue. Ken came on today and announced they are going for binding arbitration. Fuck you Ken, I guess this is going to be your last good decision (possibly only) you will make as union president. After completely fucking this up, I bet there will be a new president, post haste!!!
I see the union wants to go into binding arbitration. Did the membership tell him to quit being a doucebag and end this thing and he is using this to try and save his ass?
