I realize it really blows not being able to get to work on the bus due to the strike, but instead of bitching you really should be asking: “Where is my union?,” or “Why don’t I have the right to strike when my employer screws me on EVERYTHING?” —Lives in Walking Distance of Work
This article appears in Feb 2-8, 2012.

I walked to work… it was great. I don’t need to worry about the greedy ATU dangling it’s “essential” service over me any more, and using me as a pawn. I don’t need them after all! They can strike all they want! hahaha
The brothers&sisters have been duped by a bunch of bullies into thinking that their employer is ‘screwing them on everything’.
Form a union! Bitch at your employer for scraping food money from off your back. Work to rule. Quit. Talk to your boss.
My boss just told me that apparently it took a considerable amount of time after the last strike for the Transit Business to recover. So many people in the city had gone for so long with out buses that they realized they didn’t need them anymore, they adapted and found different routes to work. When the drivers came back from their strike they faced a considerable drop in bus riders, and therefore profits. If Metro Transit fools around for too long than they may lose a considerable amount of clientele. It’s only been a day and I know at least one person who’s never taking the bus again..
“Where is my union” – Right. My job is challenging enough without yet another level of empire building assholes fucking it up for me. And I really don’t need another set of hands in my pocket. Don’t get me wrong. If I were sucking at the public tit, I’d be out there chanting “Hay Hay, Ho Ho” with the rest of the Borg. I’d be only too happy to kick up to my capo, oh, sorry, pay dues to my local, in order for them to fight for my democratic right to get more for doing less. But I opted to be a professional instead. And, despite the odd transitory inconvenience, I can live with that.
Believe it or not, many of us don’t want to be in a union. Paying union dues for what? So we can strike over something ridiculous and call it the “principle”, meanwhile I’d be making a fraction of what I should be while on strike. No thanks.
Labour laws are enough to protect me. And otherwise if I don’t like my job, I’d find a new one.
the ig question today is, how long will they be gone? yes we suffer for the strike, but so does bridge comm., fuel dealers, oil and lube cos., a whole lot more then just us and them. when put into proper perspective, i’m surprised they haven’t taken a strike back 6 months ago. they were able to, you know.winter transportation is worse, because of snow and ice, but that is why the union waited, for more support from joe public. but they are spiting their face, by biting off the nose, us.will we ever win, never, so why even bother trying.
“If Metro Transit fools around for too long than they may lose a considerable amount of clientele”
Cool, if that happens, I’m parking my car and taking the bus.
Oh, there’s your “above comment” Sucks!
The sticking point is scheduling? Gotta be more to it than that!
OP stop acting like a victim. Your “being screwed out of everything” Really??? I work in the public sector for years and have never felt near as screwed as you do from any employer. So what does that say about your union. I realize that you are brainwashed that you belong to a superior brotherhood group…but let me tell you it is an allusion and you are being a fool. The only thing you are going to get is an empty bank account and late bills the next few weeks. So please don’t try and tell me that having a union is a good thing this day and age.
I have to agree with most of the above. I don’t agree with this union or any union for that matter. So this comment will make me as well, unpopular with the bus drivers that are on this site these days.
So exactly how is MT screwing you on everything? Certainly not the pay at $50,000. I heard the union boss on the radio saying MT hasn’t called him. Well he has a fucking phone, call them. He sounded like a child on the playground.
You want to know what your union is doing? They are screwing you. While you collect strike pay, they are getting full pay. You know you’ll never make up for the wages you’ll lose while on strike.
Where is Ronald Reagan (I know, he’s dead) when you need him.

“You know you’ll never make up for the wages you’ll lose while on strike.”
That is why this strike is not about money, yet the city wants us to believe it is.

You also have the right to quit your job and get one the better suits your lifestyle.
And adding incest err insult to injury Dear Leader has upped the price of gas to “help” the poor schlumps who have to drive to work. Gas prices in NS 131.1 NB 125.2 and PEI 120.1.
He won’t intervene so as not to offend his paymasters.
