Walking to the grocery store last eve, I was nearly hit twice in crosswalks a mere 3 minutes apart! 1) waiting patiently to cross, big ol’ Jeep driver sees me at last minute and stops, I proceed to cross and then notice the telltale glow in her face of a cell phone – texting away as I cross! Good thing I waited for her to stop like a good little fella. On the way home I noticed the same rig parked a few houses up a side street. Will get plate # later.

2) Started across busy well lit crosswalk (legally) when buddy came hurling around the corner and I had to throw my arms up to indicate I am impeding his progress and to please not run me over! He then points to the now flashing don’t walk “red guy”. I state that It was good to go when I started and had to stop so I wouldn’t get hit. He then opens his window and yells that he couldn’t see me and to wear lighter clothes… to which I reply that I’m not to blame for his inattentive driving and to slow down as I only trying to cross a street (again…legally). He was still hurling abuse as he drove off into the night (I also offered a few choice observations to him). I was wearing jeans and a grey jacket. Not the greatest attire for evening walking wear, but If I had seen him before I was in the middle of a 4 way street, I would have waited.

Fuck me… it’s easier to drive to the store… —Sorry For the Long Rant McGee

  1. “it’s easier to drive to the store…” Good advice OB. Next time, grab your car keys instead and drive.

  2. Um, wearing dark clothing at night is not a good idea. don’t know how many times I’ve seen people at the last moment (usually when they are jaywalking) because they think black is a good thing to wear at night.

  3. Right on Seb! Everyone and their cat and dog own a vehicle. You dumb twat.
Has it ever occured to you that some people can’t afford to purchase a car?

  4. still… not even sure why he recommends everyone to use a car either….
do you really WANT twice to three times the traffic???
    that’s pretty idiotic.

Were I him… I’d recommend MORE people take the bus/walk to get them off the fucking road and outta my way…
but not before drinking bleach for being a dumb ass piece of shit.

  5. Op its not your fault most people can’t drive or understand the concept of crosswalks. It doesn’t help a lot have a bad habit are pulled by pedestrian’s.
Then there is tards like Seb who think owning a car is the solution to most if not all problems.

  6. yeah, it is hard. just as hard as trying to tell someone something. some people are just so fucking thick headed. case in point, need new heat regulator today. owner came with plumber, installed it and now, no fucking heat. i asked if he turned water back on, got a look like what the fuck do you know. he has to put in a new thermostat too, when he comes again. i’ll ask he if it is hot enough.
and no it isn’t. even a fucking dummy knows you need 2 things for hot water heat, water and a connection. he left here, with wires hooked direct together, and no heat, why, no water flow. fuck me, i’m a genius.

  7. senor, good to see you back, a whole new crop of bitchers are here, some good, soe just fucking assholes. but most of the regulars are still here, for the time being.

  8. i always try to keep an eye out for crosswalks… but in the winter and at night there are a couple issues.

    1. its reallly dark out some nights
    2. the salt on the road obscures the crosswalk signs on the streets.
    3. combine the first 2 with dark wintery clothing and it can be hard as hell to spot some walkers.

we arnt all trying to mow down the peds but we need your help to keep everyone safe. wear lighter clothing or reflective bands, and if your crosswalk has a flashy button jobbie then use it…. but dont just press it and walk out blindly like it just erected a force field across the road.

being right and dead….. doesnt seem like a victory to me.

  9. i actually agree with zed.
and no not everyone owns a car. i do not drive. and even in the day time there have been instances where i have almost been hit because the driver doesn’t pay attention. i see it happen to others all the time.

  10. how very big of you…
I’m not all bad… just mostly.

there’s a reason people hit in crosswalks make the paper all the time….
    IT HAPPENS all the time.

  11. All of you are going to be stuffed in cars anyway if Metro Transit strikes after Sunday. Or have fun biking.

  12. well us ending up in cars has nothing to do with drivers not paying attention. i dont care if i walk bus drive or bike. no matter how i get there there is always going to be drivers that do not pay attention and an accident in some form.
yes zed, we all have our good and bad moments, yours just one a little more than the other
and by a little i mean a lot

  13. Sebastian’s been fixated on cars lately. Some kind of auto-eroticism, I guess ;->. It would be kind of funny if Seb was some kind of glad-handing charlie at the car lot by day/angry troll by night…

OB, twilight is the most dangerous time for pedestrians and cyclists. It’s dim outside and drivers are in a hurry.
You are correct that you are allowed to be in the crosswalk when the sign is flashing. The flashing is an indicator not to cross if you haven’t started yet. Yes, the driver was wrong and a jerk…but

…the crosswalk doesn’t have magical protective properties, OB: it’s just painted lines in a street…Aesop has some snow sneakers with a reflective ‘swoosh’ that’s about the size of a toenail clipping. Like someone’s gonna see that at night at 50 km/hr…same idea as a crosswalk…an illusion of protection… gotta be careful at night…

  14. Today’s roads are a very dangerous place for pedestrians. Drivers are too busy multi-tasking, opening their coffee, texting, switching radio stations etc. Make eye contact with the driver, that’s the safest approach.

  15. You don’t have to dress extremely bright, but as a driver in the early mornings and late evenings going down South Street constantly, I do have to say its truly hard to see any pedestrian walking across the road(especially wearing darker clothing). With bright headlights coming in the opposite direction at you it is difficult for the eye to adjust too. And i’ve noticed a lot of walkers don’t stop and look both ways before crossing…Pretty sure these are two safety rules you learn about when your in elementary school, possibly even before that if your parents were smart.
