You have to love the transit service in this city. Get to the stop where a #20 is supposed to hit at 7:49am, see 6 OUT OF SERVICE buses go by before 8am and nary an appearance by the #20. No big deal, the #6 is supposed to hit the same area right around the top of the hour. Nope, nothing by ten-after. All right, let’s call GoTime and see what’s going on here, “We are experiencing technical difficulties. *click*” Oh. Meanwhile, three more OUT OF SERVICE tin cans on wheels go by.
Well I reckon I should probably motor down the street so I can hopefully at least catch a #1 and not be late for work. Two more OUT OF SERVICE buses go by as I speed walk (har-dee-har-har) down the very icy sidewalks to my destination. Fortunately the #1 is running and I make it to the office just a couple minutes late.
All this on the coldest damn morning of the new year. I get it that buses can break down or be delayed, especially given the aging fleet that the city deploys. But wow, nearly a dozen OUT OF SERVICE buses on the road and not a one of them can be converted to an ad hoc #20/#6 to get people to their destinations. Good job, ya nincompoops! —Would Have Been Better Off Walking

I wish I lived in “Out of Service” because it has, hands down, the best service in this city!! Grrr 🙂
if folks driving in their cars could pick these other folks up, it would help. tho i don’t tend to worry about physical safety. okay, how’s this…i dare every lone driver in halifax to pick up a lonely, cold, bus stop person… triple dog dare ya
Out services buses fine but FFS, don’t all sit there so the buses that are still running can’t even get to the curb or stops, they fucking sit there for christ knows how long doing fuck all and very few actually start a route. And then the whole pulling away while your trying to get off one on to the other puts one in a great mood in the morning
Well first of all, depending at what time in the morning this was and where we have a garage in ragged lake. So if your near the rotary, chebucto area you are going to see dozens of out of service buses. This is one of our “dead head routes” we take to get to Mumford, downtown, Dartmouth ( yes as dumb as it is the Halifax garage sends buses to the bridge terminal and beyond to start a route” and spryfield area. As for the commenter that complained about where out of service buses sit for long periods of time. We have few spots we are allowed to sit because of variety of reasons. The spots we sit are ones we are told to use to conduct our breaks we have not other choice.
OB, the only people who care are the other poor fucks that are either too cheap, too poor, or too retarded to go out and drive their own car. Now do you see what your bus fare is worth. You’re wasting your time and your life on that pathetic loser cruiser service.
paingirl, Mike says he’ll take you up on that 😉

Um, the Out of Service busses are either going to start their routes or doing a charter service so they can’t be changed to an ad hoc bus just for you. You remind me of a kid begging mom or dad to buy you something and they say they have no money and you go there’s $50 in your pocket. Mom or dad may have $50 in their pocket but it is not for you.
OP, I call Bullshit on your story. Sure there are streets that see a dozen buses in an hour. But a street the sees a dozen ‘out of service’ buses, yet nothing in service? You are so full of shit, it is clouding your brain.
fuk, new year, same old fucking bitches. get a fucking grip people. it is what it is, exactly.
Must have been those pesky Deadhead runs again.
The lousy service contiunes…
I’ve often wondered why people like things to remain unchanged ?
They reminisce about the good old days, how the worlds going too fast today… I wonder if in the next 50 years or so when (hopefully) Halisux has a mass transit system that actually works.
Will people stop & remember the good old days ?
~:p
GV, go the the bridge terminal at Dartmouth at 4:45/5:00 – and count the out of service busses compared to the ones still in service… I never understood how at the height of rush hour one could wait there for a bus for 20-30 minutes… I have no doubt OB’s story is correct.
yes hugo, but you did see what happened to him, at the end of the movie http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_7HTO3jP-_lk/Srjt…
I love how you shell out like 60 bucks for a bus pass and they pull crap like this. You should tell them to refund your 2 dollars for that day or mail you a free bus ticket.
But Dartmouthy, that is not what the OP described. OP, described a route that was so busy that it has a dozen out of service buses in an hour, yet, not 1 in service bus in that same hour. If we consider your bridge terminal example, you’d be hard pressed to find an hour where NO in service buses are coming.
Buses have to get places, for those of you that think the bus you caught this morning doing a 59 to the bridge remains 59s the whole day your mistaken very few buses due that. I did a shift once where I did the following routes 18,84,83,87,58 and a 9. I had to deadhead out of service twice to get to the beginning of my next route. Next for those that continue to bitch about out of service buses at the bridge it’s a terminal folks. A lot of routes end here this it equals out of service buses. Drivers need to have breaks and they usually occur at the terminals.
i (we) know it’s not your fault, you do what you can given the tools at hand
Well articulated, Artic!
um, Paingirl, most people on this bitch are independant thinkers that prefer to speak for themselves. Although, you had a 50% chance of being correct when you wrote “we” it certainly was not necessary.
nincompoops?..hey hey..come on .that’s a little much with the hate..
