For years I’ve avoided ever going into the Palace because it’s not my scene. It reeks of desperation and I’ve heard nothing but horror stories about useless, angry bouncers. When Flogging Molly was booked to play here at the Palace, I was dismayed, however I can’t choose the venue, especially when punk rock venues have sadly diminished in this city. Yet on Oct 14th, I was pleasantly surprised by how great the Palace was at hosting this band and the hugely diverse crowd that convened there. They allowed moshing and at no point that I saw (I was in the pit so something could have happened on the outskirts) did anything get out of hand. I crowd surfed along with others and the bouncers guided all of us down to a safe area next to the stage. Anywhere else, we would have been kicked out. Amazing tolerance of us! My feet got pretty banged up and one of the bouncers even got a First Aid kit and put band-aids on my bleeding toe after the show! Kudos to the bouncers…it’s good to see the Palace have some great representation!

  1. The Palace has really seemed to have dropped off the radar a bit lately. Every time I’ve walked by there it’s always been nearly empty. Maybe a good thing, but maybe a bit of a shame also since it’s one of the oldest continuously operating nightclubs in the city. My parents partied there in the 70s… no, seriously, they did.

  2. I’m glad someone had a good experience at the palace. I find that they’re not too bad when somethings going one, concerts, DJ battles, whatev. But when its a nightclub… Ew.

  3. Yeah, let’s commend the bouncers for NOT doing their jobs and breaking up the moshing, thereby putting everyone’s safety at risk. You only cut your toe? You’re lucky.

  4. I don’t know where the OP was in the mosh, but you missed a lot. I saw bouncers repeatedly pick out the punks, and tell them to get out of the mosh or get thrown out, and at one point a guy who looked like he wanted to be sammy hagar started a fight with a punk, and the punk was the one singled out by the bouncers. Aside from that the show was freaking amazing though, much better than the Moncton one.

PS. nevermind, moshing comes with the territory for this style of music, you don’t like it, go listen to lady blah blah. That, and more people were injured walking through the broken glass outside the mosh than were hurt taking part.
