This is for all you rude bitches that talk and do homework during O’Canada and for all those whiney bastards who complain about having to stand or even sing O’Canada every day at school. seriously grow up you whiney fuckers. Yes there is all that stuff about veterans dying for our nation and for our freedom. Let’s think for a minute you ignorant bastards gossiping during O’Canada. I think you retards should pay attention to this: Canada is one of the richest countries in the world we have so many more freedoms like gay marriage and equal rights for gays then other countries. We also have: free health care, free education up to grade 12, a strong police force to keep us safe basic necessities like running water, sewage, power and proper housing and building codes (for most people). For you pot heads there legal medical marijuana… and MUCH MUCH MORE. Seriously think about that the next time O’Canada comes on in school and you don’t give a flying fuck. After all, when you fail at your already crappy life, O’Canada will be supplying you welfare.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Canada and all, just not that lame, over-played “O Canada” song.
over played?!?
Having to listen to it every morning all throughout public school for twelve years, plus at just about every single sporting event, considering as well that I’m not a fan of the song… yes, over-played.
you’ll damn well stand on guard and you’ll like it.
Thank you, OP. We live in one of the greatest countries in the world and too often we take it for granted. Show some respect for it, get off your ass for a couple minutes.
Agreed OP, however the medical J’s don’t help the stoners, just the sick… However I wish I could get my hands on one of those tubs of pre-rolls like in the movie In Pot We Trust… Interesting flick for any anti-medical marijuana people out there…
Its a fucking song! The expectation to rise and “pay respect” to words just astounds me, which is why I usually ignore it and remain seated – or do something else in the meantime. At an event I’ll use it as a free moment to use the washroom.
Personally I think its BS that people are often forced to stand and/or recite it daily. I’m pretty sure that Germany did something similar while the Third Reich was in power – but Canadians will quickly attempt to distance themselves from Nazi Germans somehow while the act is very similar.
Its a person’s right to refuse to stand and/or recite the anthem – or any manifest or lyrics and it should be exercised more. Doing so got me in trouble a few times during public school and gets me some stares in the present day but I could care less.
Its not hurting anybody by refusing to stand/recite and its a personal choice. If others don’t like it then so fucking what. Let them be insulted or upset; its ultimately their problem.
Canada isn’t “great” because a nation of naive folks stands-at-attention when its anthem comes on. Its not great b/c children recite it daily either. The song has nothing to do with why Canada is great (or not).
Again – its just a song.
It’s been many many years since any Canadian soldiers died to protect our freedoms. But yeah, we do owe the soldiers of the war of 1812-1814 some respect, you’re right…
You don’t have to show your respect to your country or the people who thought that your country was worth dying for. You don’t have to wipe your ass after using the bathroom either. But, most Canadian people would appreciate it if you made an effort to do both.
For some people, it’s not just a song NGF…it’s a symbol. This nation doesn’t have many symbols that unify us and some people appreciate the National Anthem for that reason.
And it’s not the same as indoctrination. The intent of teaching school children the national anthem is equivalent to teaching them Canadian history…it’s part of our national identity and it’s important to give kids a way to develop and express their national pride. Maybe we should toss out the flag too while we’re at it. Indoctrinating kids usually involves a little more than starting the day with a song.
You can always count on Miles to take the high (and patient) road = )
you should be thankful for the right to be there to hear our nations proud anthem!
you ignorant little shit.
Just a point, OP: healthcare and education isn’t “free” — we pay more than our fair share of taxes for such things, and you will too in your lifetime.
Ah religion and patriotism in the same grain. Look where it got the Mericans.
Canadians aren’t patriotic enough, some people just don’t know how good they’ve got it. If it’s too much to ask for people to shut-up and stand for our anthem, maybe they should go spend a few years in another country like say, Iraq. Bet that would change their attitude.
Oh and medical marijuana doesn’t only benefit the sick cause any joe blow stoner with a decent doctor can get approved for it. I haven’t seen the documentary you’re referring to LOGiC, but nevermind the tub of pre-rolls, its best to get the medical grow card, which allows you to grow your own.
Patriotism is a corporate commercial interest. WE are the cheapest labour force capable of gathering our resources for sale internationally. They don’t want to import their own because it would cost more.
Nationalism equals xenophobia. I would like to consider myself a world citizen who happens to reside under the Canadian administration. I do believe it’s better then most but so what.
Stand up, sit down pray with your left hand raised, kneeling wont make your god any more real whether he’s a benign bearded love child or a maple leaf. Custom does not translate into respect.
Build your fascist ideals and threaten and abuse anyone intelligent enough to have questions. Me, I’m locking the door and building a room in the attic. You people have no idea how scary you really are.
We all know that in a nation without decent the true anthem is silence.
Most of that post sounded like gibberish to me, but I’d just like to point out that patriotism is NOT nationalism. Having awareness of, and pride in, your country is does not mean you don’t like outsiders or are unwilling to trade with them or accept immigrants from them.
Canada is a perpetual work in progress. Due to its form of government, the people have it in their power to re-shaped their country according to the changing ideals and values of each new generation which has learned from past generations’ experiences. Although mistakes were made, the contributions of past generations should not be diminished. We have learned much from each generations’ trial and err just as the next generation will learn from ours. Why you, as a Canadian, should take pride in your country, regardless of the mistakes, is that we, as Canadians, constantly strive toward the ideal. We are not afraid of change. We always think that we can do better. And, we welcome anyone who appreciates our efforts and who wants to join us in our quest for perfection. The symbols that represent Canada are the only constant things in a country that is constantly changing. Do not undervalue what they represent. Do not confuse respect, appreciation and pride with conformity and submission. Stand proud when you have the opportunity.
Playing and acknowledging the national anthem is about respect for one’s country and about not taking it for granted.
