You cost this city $25,000 to clean up after your protest fantasy camp which your precious 99% will be paying for.
Thanks for the “support” protest, shit for brains, but most of us can’t afford to accept “support” from you anymore.
Get a job and help the rest of us pay for the fallout from your two month urban camp-out adventure. —The REAL Bob Cratchet

Are they leeching power up in Victoria Park? If so, who has the wire cutters? That power comes from a corporation, something they are against, so why are they using it? Those tents were likely purchased from corporations….why aren’t they live in teepees? To hell with those stoner granolas. I would never hire them.

I would have little difficulty in questioning that $25,000 figure.
How the fuck does it cost 25K to clean that up?
Bullshit, it might have cost 25,000 to clean and set up for rememberance day, but not just to sweep up some garbage, which would have had to be done anyway.
My understanding is the grass is ruined, a garden is ruined, they spray painted things, waste removal, had to have more police to make sure nothing got out of hand and of course the power bill.
OH FOR FUCKS SAKE CAN I GO A DAY WITHOUT HEARING ABOUT THIS SHIT!!! YOU WANT THEM TO STOP!!?!! STOP PAYING ATTENTION TO THEM!!
FUCK
let’s drive it right off the tracks thomas…whose with me wheeee http://www.thestar.com/news/world/article/…
How typical … to think that anyone associated with the 99% Movement would be “Granola”. If believing that helps you to get over the fact that their cause is just … then so be it. I come from a family that’s always been in business for itself, There are generations of us that have never worked a day in our lives for another person or company. To spite that success, I believe in paying tax and I believe in contributing to build a strong and resourceful country. The Wealthy should be giving back to the community because after all, its that community that helped them achieve the wealth and status they enjoy today! Example: What good does it do you to have 30 Million in the bank when you die? Are you going to take it with you? NO … its so their family can sustain wealth and power for generations to come. That’s where our thinking is completely warped. We should be sending our children out into the world with the tools they need build their own fortunes, rather than have one maintain for them and spoon fed their entire existence. I’m not saying that people shouldn’t be able to accumulate personal wealth, but spoiling our children and spoon feeding them with unlimited bank accounts doesn’t do anyone any good. Everyone could take a lesson from Warren Buffet. He’s practically the worlds richest man and he’s not leaving his family a penny. He expects them to make their own way in life. As a result, his entire wealth will be used to set up various foundations for the benefit of humanity. That’s FANTASTIC!
They’re in my backyard right now. Of course.. they’re not bothering me. But walking to work every day with a sore back and watching them happily hoover up a percent of the money i bust my balls (literally) to earn for them puts my teeth on edge..
sebastian.. probably the same reason 50% of them have iPhones. Hypocrisy.
Seriously my street has become one giant protest mishigoss. I wasn’t out the door two seconds this morning before some crazy anti-abortion crone shoved a cross in my face. (not shitting you.. some old woman got in my face with her goddamned rosary today. Usually they are polite and non-invasive but this is the second time now one of them got in my face and tried to keep me from passing.. thank god for martial arts is all i can say..) and now the tents are close enough for me to smell.
Fuck this. I’m just going to stand naked outside my house with two signs. One saying “naked for Jesus” and the other saying “Free Tibet”
There’s no WAY the city will stop me in THIS neighbourhood.. That’s been made abundantly clear.
Now if you’ll all excuse me, i’m gonna go occupy myself a beer.
I too am across the street from their new location and kept awake with drumming and a loud yappy dog on top of yelling and chanting for the past few nights.
So how annoyed was I this morning when leaving to walk to work I overheard them making plans to stay in their current location since it’s so much nicer. I know…that’s why I earn a paycheck so I can afford to live here before you ruined it by stealing my night’s sleep.
Haven’t those fools been arrested yet? Send in the dudes with the truncheons.
I’ll assume 25k is correct. Let’s say 100,000 of our fine residents pay income taxes. 25 cents a pop isn’t going to break the bank. Fuck off you freedom hater.
If there’s one thing I’m intolerant of, it’s fuckin bongos and drum circles. No one besides the people participating wants to hear that shit. Someone should dress up like a ninja and sabotage all the drums when they pass out from trying to smoke their hemp sweaters out of desperation.
Happy not to be living on South Park St. these days, though I do miss it at times. Just as well not to be in the replica Bongo Congo.
i will be glad when they finally call it quits, just to get rid of all the stupid bitches about them. really bob, you actually pay taxes for them. seems to me, that quite a few work corporate. or at least that is what some said. so how come they protest their own paycheque then?
At least they’re a little closer to the Farmers Market, it’s quite a walk in Birkenstocks.
was water-cooler talking about this the other day…
perhaps we can occupy Occupy NS.
get all dressed up in our finest attire and head over there for a bit.
Everyone’s supposed to be welcome and everything’s by consensus so we’ll just sabotage every vote they take… and by their own rules, they can’t really do anything about it.
public land and all that…
It’d be funny to see how quickly they corrupt their own ‘system’.
anyone on board?
show of ‘spirit fingers’….
“I’ll assume 25k is correct. Let’s say 100,000 of our fine residents pay income taxes. 25 cents a pop isn’t going to break the bank. Fuck off you freedom hater.”
It’s the principle. We shouldn’t HAVE to pay one red cent to fix the damage caused by these ‘protestors’. Let’s you and I and a few others all get together tonight and go cause $25000 damage to some random public space downtown. We’ll say that we’re only exercising our right to protest. Then we’ll see how long it will take before the police are there, slapping on the cuffs and we all get criminal records. I’m not saying they don’t have a right to protest, they do. But they sure don’t have a right to damage public property in the process and they sure as HELL don’t have the right to expect the rest of us to pick the bill for the clean up and repair.
“25 cents a pop isn’t going to break the bank. Fuck off you freedom hater.”
So, by your definition, freedom is having the “right” to cause thousands of dollars in damage to public property with no intention of paying compensation, total disregard of the consequences and even going so far as to say that someone else not involved can pay for it. Did I get that right? FUCK YOU, CANNED!! FUCK. YOU. That’s not freedom. That’s immature ignorance and arrogance. Your attitude is fucking weak and does nothing but paint every Occupier with the same brush of their undeserved sense of self entitlement. WE, (the non-occupiers) didn’t cause the damage. THEY did. THEY should be made to pay for it. It would be like me going down there and slicing a big, gaping hole in one of their tents and then saying, “There’s X number of you here. The tent only cost $150 bucks. Divide it up, that won’t break the bank.” How far do you think I would get before I was chased down by someone looking for compensation? What you describe is not freedom, it’s anarchy. The men and women who we are honouring tomorrow (in the same space these ‘protestors’ damaged), who fought and died so that these people CAN exercise their right to peaceably protest without fear of persecution, wouldn’t call that freedom either. That’s not what they died for. How DARE you trivialize their sacrifice by calling us ‘freedom haters’, you ignorant prick! They were allowed, (and are continuing to be allowed), to exercise their right to protest. No one tried to take that away from them. Remember THAT in your next drum circle.
P.S. I was having a pretty good day before I read your post. Thanks for ruining my day, asshole.
Oh vastie — my heart just aches with vastie-love-and-adoration after that post.
Though all I really read was “FUCK YOU, CANNED!! FUCK. YOU.” buuuuuut that was quite enough to get my day turned in the right direction.
Soooo they want the 99% to pay less, by costing them (us) more money? They’re trying to get ahead by falling behind. They are..the Lag-up Program of protests!
I’d love to see a break down of that 25 grand.
Seeing as they used city employees (that we pay anyway) so lets subtract that.
Then there would be the vehicles & fuel…which we would be paying any how…subtract some more.
Power …how much power do you think they were able to ‘steal’ from 15 or 20 amp U ground AC plugs ?
Seeing as its almost WINTER ..the garden was fucked until next year & city employees at the various greenhouses are already preping & redo it every spring, so stop being an asshole & remember its done yearly whether protestors are there or not ! Let us subtract that & we probably come up with a grand total of sweet fuck all, except a few dollars in power & if it is even metered. Because if its a commericial power hook up, they are charged based on maximum draw & the little bit used would probably not have made a difference.
A few points avasto
– Property damage contains elements of intent and or neglect. The examples you provided of smashing $20,000 worth of property or deliberately damaging someone’s tent are examples of this. Long-term wear and tear associated with being on one place for a prolonged period (such as the Occupy protest) does not contain the same elements. The damage incurred on the property in question is an –unintended– byproduct of the activity. You should consult the criminal code, or at the very least, Wikipedia, before you start pissing and moaning.
– I agree that they should have cleaned up their mess or footed the bill for the clean up. That’s fine. But in the end they didn’t and the result is an insignificant cost to the tax base. While we’re on the topic of responsibility, you should note that Canadian bank(er)s (the very people who are at the center of this protest) received billions of dollars back in 2008 in exchange for the dead assets they had acquired through a series of their own greed-fueled decisions. The several billions of dollars worth of shitty actions were footed by you and I. So it’s more or less the same thing, just on a much bigger scale. Did you piss and moan about this too (the occupiers are). If not then I hope you realize your energy is seriously misplaced.
Finally, on the veterans. Every year around Nov. 11 a lot of people start saying things like “you shouldn’t do/say x because it is disrespectful of our veterans”. Translated that actually means “I disapprove of x, but I’m not sure why… fuck it, I’m pretty sure the veterans don’t like x either, so there should be no more x”. In other words, you’re using the veterans and their sacrifices as pawns to justify your position about things or to chastise people for saying things you disagree with. That seems pretty disrespectful to me. You know what else is likely disrespectful to veterans: speaking on their behalf on anonymous forums. So it seems that you’re being more of a dick than you actually thought, avasto. Good job.

I am so weary of listening to sheeple like you bleating about jobs and taxes. I have a job. I make about thirty thousand dollars a year. Hardly a princely salary, but I sure as hell pay income tax. A friend of mine who is down there almost every minute she’s not working pays as much income tax as a minimum wage earner takes home. There are unemployed people down there. Some of them are on EI, which is fucking taxable. Yes, there are plenty of people who are too poor to pay income tax. But they still buy shit. And they pay tax on the shit they buy. Even the dirty hippies you revile paid tax on those bongos and birkenstocks.
The assumptions you make say far more about you than they say about the Occupy movement. Educate yourself.
