What is wrong with you people?! You all think you are so open-minded and considerate yet look at this ridiculous controversy. Having group homes in your community means that your neighbourhood is a safe liveable place. The people living and working in group homes are wonderful, kind people and great neighbours. They’re the ones that come over with baked goods on your kid’s birthday, the ones who water your plants or feed your cat when you’re on vacation. They don’t throw big loud parties in the middle of the night, they don’t leave garbage out to rot on their property, they don’t renovate their house or mow the lawn at 6 in the morning… That is more than I can say for most of my neighbours so what is your problem Dartmouth? Do you think disabilities are contagious?? Or are you seriously just that much of an intolerant bigoted asshole??? Looks like you’re the bad neighbor here! —wtf

Is that Dartmouth Group homes or Halifax Group homes, or maybe they are HRM group homes
Oh fuck off!!! The way I see it, it’s more about the density of for profit businesses in residential neighbourhoods and the lack of policy dealing with this new wave of privatized healthcare. To say that families that have invested at least a quarter of a million dollars on a safe place to raise their children do not have the right to question what goes on in their neighborhood is just stupid. It’s a free fucking country and I can hold any opinion I want, you don’t get to dictate to me how I feel about what goes on in my neighbourhood. I don’t have this going on where I own my property, and likely never will, but if the situation should arise, I damn well want some shit in writing to protect the value of my investment.
GROUP HOMES & HALFWAY HOUSES
“Do you think disabilities are contagious?” wtf
It depends on what is to be understood by “disability.” Ordinarily one thinks of a physical disability of some sort but when one sees the title “Group Home in Dartmouth” one immediately thinks of halfway houses rather than group homes. The reason for this is that the “disability” normally associated with that community involves violent, even criminal behaviour. Indeed, one might argue that Dartmouth itself might be called Halifax’s “Halfway House.”
A pleasure as always,
Cheerio!

There’s a group home for seniors who are awaiting placement in long-term care on my street. I fucking love those people. You’re right, op, they are probably about the most considerate neighbours in HRM. I take the kids and the dog over for a visit a couple of time a week and they are so grateful for the interaction. In return, I get tomatoes from their garden and enough hand knit slippers to last a lifetime. Some people seem to think this is going to bring the value of their homes down; I personally think it brings the value of the neighbourhood up. What wonderful life lessons for children in the humble act of compassion for your neighbour.
I don’t want old people living near me – you can hear their damn TV’s a mile away
^^^ They don’t want to admit they need hearing aids.
eh? wazzat?
